Mauser HSC in 380 Recoil Hurts

I have a .380 HSC Super that is made by Gamba in Italy but Gives the Mauser address ect. It is strikingly beautiful in machine work and fish . The grip , being a double stack that holds a 15 round magazine is much wider and palm filling than the original HSC . Therefore the recoil , although still a bit block .380 snappy , isn't that bad and the gun is reliable except with flat point .380s which only work with 10 rounds in the mags. The gun is aboutr the same size as a Beretta 84 . I like it , but it is not popular with the ladies I bought it for. I am gonna use it as a hidden (up too high for children ) defense gun in a strategic place .

Yeah the HSc was originally issued in .32 ACP only. Mauser restarted production, but .380 this time, in the 1960's. I remember the magazine ads had the pistol pictured on a sheet of paper that looked like an engineering drawing... very technical. They never sold well as I recall.

My .380 PPK is a sweet shooter though... just hang on tight with both hands. ;)

I have an Interarms Mauser HSC in380. It was in almost new condition and I put 4 mags of 6 rounds through it. No problem but it hurt like hell. The 32 is probably easer to shoot. Comments….

Try shooting a Seecamp in 380!!:what:

I could should the NAA OK, it had a lot of mass to it. Still was a boat anchor!

The hammer coming back pinches the loose web tissue on my hand if I hold it too far up. However, otherwise, I've never noticed anything uncomfortable when shooting it.
It is definitely my most accurate .380 pocket pistol.

Here is the somewhat bulbous for a .380 HSC Super 15 round double stack. With that grip to hold on to it is a different, somewhat weird but comfortable pistol to absorb the snappy recoil of the puny .380 in unlocked format ! Maybe I'll get Mach IV to internally thread the barrel to M13.5L to screw on a small suppressor for my son's household uses. He owns the suppressors. .380 is pretty quiet

I bought mine back in the '70s. Never fired it. Sold it to my brother and he later sold it back to me. Still haven't fired it. I think it may be time.

The .380 Walther PPK and PPK/S are no slouches in the stinging hand dept either.

Hopefully, the Mauser doesn't draw blood with slide cuts like the Walthers often do.

Great aesthetics on the Mauser though.

Blowback .380s just aren't any fun at all, Walthers and Mausers especially. The SIG iteration is a little more handfilling, and somewhat better. How anything that looks as elegant as the HSc can be such an ergonomic disaster is simply a mystery.
Traded mine away; wouldn't mind another in 7.65.

The blowback .380s in general seem to recoil more than their rather puny ballistics might suggest. I once got to put a magazine through a SIG 238 .380, with a locked breech type action. I expected the worst, but recoil was actually quite soft due to the locked breech....

Had a similar result with a 9mm Sig 938 I rented at a range. Much milder than I expected.

Bought a Ruger Max 380 couple months ago and carry it in OWB regularly. I do reload at less than factory strength so it is a fun shooter and not snappy. Surprisingly light, accurate and functional. Holster also fits the Ruger II 22cal perfectly which I carry at times, depending on circumstances.

There were four small 7.65 semi-auto pistols made in Germany during the ramp up to WWII, the Walther PP & PPK, the JP Sauer 38h and the Mauser HSc. Of the three the JP Sauer 38h is by far my favorite and the PPK narrowly beats out the HSc for the bottom slot. My HSc does pinch the webbing on my hand at times but the PPK was simply a Slice&Dice O'Matic. The 38h has just about everything right and IMHO is way far superior to my PP.
