This may sound very weird, but it's for a good reason.

Can anyone tell me what would've came on a Leupold VariX-II 3x9 glossy 40mm back in 1971 in the way of scope caps? Or were there any at all in the first place

I have a 1971 vintage .243 Weatherby Vanguard that was my late grandfathers. Well I called Leupold and the scope is the same vintage according to them. I mean i have the hard case, the sling, the scope and rings..etc that he bought all brand new at that time. So...

this brings to me to scope caps. If there was scope caps way back then, anyone know what they were so i can search about on Ebay or forums or what not?

any help appreciated

Butler Creek Storm King. It had rubber caps that was held together by an overgrown rubberband. Another rubber band secured it to the scope body. You released both by flipping up one cap and "boing!," both came off.
