But remember the whole story...

It was early 1994, in the second year of the Slick administration.

Due to "legislative tricks" (according to First Lady Hillary Rodham
Clinton) by Republicans, her husband's plan to save the nation
from the "threat to our national security" (per actor Michael Douglas)
posed by "assault weapons" was derailed.

In mid-April of that year, in a Rose Garden photo-op with uniformed
police officers in the background, a woman related the story of
how her son was gunned down in the streets of New Orleans, and
how it was the NRA's fault. "They just don't care."

When that grieving mother returned to her home town of New
Orleans, she was arrested when she stepped off onto the tarmac.
You see, she was in violation of her parole when she appeared in
the Rose Garden, for she was a convicted drug dealer and not
allowed to leave Louisiana without permission -- even for the
President. The arresting officers saw her on TV the day before
and said, "Hey, look who's on TV!" So the White House was
guilty of aiding and abetting in the illegal interstate flight of a
convicted felon.

(Just another average day in the Clinton White House.)

It also turned out that the son of hers who was killed, died as the
result of a botched "hit" on HER from some dissatisfied "acquaintances."
She, of course, bears no responsibility for her actions. After all, this
is America. (It's no small measure of an administration bereft of
morals and awash in bankrupt ideology when the only spokesperson
they can drag in front of the cameras for their cause is a convicted
drug felon on the lamb. Sort of explains Carole Price and MAHA,
doesn't it?)

Of the policemen who were present, at least one filed a lawsuit in
Virginia stating that he was FORCED to attend the Clinton dog and
pony show, in uniform, in CLEAR VIOLATION of department and FOP
rules. When he was whisked away, he wasn't told the truth until
he was blocks from the White House. That story was later published
in the NRA's magazine.

So that was April of 1994. The pressure was too much, and too
many "friends" caved-in to the media-celebrated forces of evil.
The end result was Bill Clinton's Omnibus Crime Act (I have a copy),
a.k.a., the "How I Paid Off All My 1992 Campaign Political Debts Act."

"Assault weapon" -- a contrived political term -- now became a
permanent and historical part of the American legal lexicon. An
"assault rifle" is, of course, the military term for a select-fire
weapon of intermediate range, but the two phrases are NOT
interchangeable. "Assault weapon" is a LEGAL term. "Assault
rifle" is a military term. (It's as bad as the clueless media's routine
and cavalier abuse of the MILITARY term, "casualty.")

Have we forgotten "Midnight Basketball," where, with the aid of
American tax dollars, gangs could assemble legitimately (at a time
when most taxpayers were in bed) and afterwards get in street
fights (from the University of Maryland study)?

Have we forgotten the pledge to put 100,000 police on the streets
of the United States in order to fight crime? According to the 1993,
1994, 1995 and 1996 FBI Uniform Crime Reports, the number of
"uniformed" police officers dropped in D.C. by 18% between June 30,
1993, and July 1, 1996. In DC, the police were fleeing the city three
times faster than the general population. Where was DC's share of
those 100,000 cops? (Curiously, DC's 18% drop in uniformed officers
was matched by a 25% drop in crime. Fewer cops -- fewer crimes.)

Don't forget the fact that AK-47s weren't being used in crimes BEFORE
the assault weapons ban was established, despite all the hoopla
(check out "Lost Rights: The Destruction of American Liberty" by
James Bovard).

Remember the police chief from New Jersey who submitted testimony
to Congress saying that his men had a greater chance of being killed
by an escaped tiger from the zoo than to be shot and killed with an
assault weapon?

Don't forget that the total number of people killed with "assault"
weapons in the District of Columbia in 1993 was ZERO (FBI Uniform
Crime Reports, 1993 -- next year the breakdown for murders by
firearm would be missing for DC).

Don't forget, when the loyalists of the autocratic liberal state
come pleading with you to save the "assault" weapon ban, that
they have successfully kept the elephants away for 9 years.

SB494 is MAHA's and JHU's attempt to continue prohibition on
assault weapons in Maryland. It's part of the nationwide push
to save the planet when the 1994 act sunsets.

We are engaged in a nationwide "Whack-A-Mole" game on this
issue. When Sarah raises her head somewhere, somebody's
got to whack it. SB494 is our "mole's head" in Maryland. Not
only that, it is an imperative goal for the forces of desperation.
They tried to roll back Colorado after Columbine, and they failed.
They tried to finish off gun shows after 9/11 and they failed.
Now they are trying to ply their wares in Maryland where the
so-called Beltway "snipers" killed so many. If they can't win
HERE it will be a public slap in the face for the gun control
movement.

It will make the Brady Campaign as irrelevant in the United States
as the United Nations is in North Korea.

These are the stakes.

We can make a difference.

Also, don't forget that in the elections of November 1994, the
gun grabbers paid dearly for their legislative actions.

Hopefully, the Republicans haven't forgotten that either -- especially
George and Bob.

weapon" hysteria, of 1994, see
