I would like to sell a 1884 Springfield trapdoor serial # 328424, I believe this makes it a 1888 or 89 vintage. It is complete except for the cleaning rod and it has a broken firing pin which I intend to replace. The action seems to be good and tight and the bore is in good shape. Thought about asking $400.00-450.00. Does that seem a fair price??

I see them frequently, and they routinely bring $350-550, so you're certainly in the ballpark.

I sold mine for $400 and it had the rod bayonet. In about the same condition with the ghost of an acceptance cartouche.

I agree about the front sight. I also think that this rifle is in better condition than most. I wonder if an armorer put on the brass blade front sight. These were very cheap in the early 20th Century and folks didn't consider their collector value. Many were used as .410 shotguns.

There is a Trapdoor web site. They'd ask more money for this rifle. It needs that cleaning rod. But without it I'll bet it'd be an excellent shooter. IMHO it's easily worth $400.
