Wicked. See -thats- why I want an AK. Does that sort've serious rapid fire work hurt the rifle any? Full auto originally or not. Thats overheating..

I've put atleast 10K through it since then and it's still going!

Yes! Why do you still have 3 loaded magazines?

I was new to AK's at the time, I didn't realize setting hand guards on fire was a normal thing :D . But now I just wear a welders glove when I'm doing some rapid fire!

Yes, it does. It'll ruin the chamber throat and rifling, destroying the gun's accuracy.

Then again, it's an AK, so you probably won't notice. ;)

(Destroying an AK's accuracy is like ruining a Glock's looks; you can do it, but it won't be apparent without careful examination. :D )

That's getting me to think about rapid firing my AK. I'm pretty careful to only shoot a magazine or two and let the rifle cool down before firing off another volley. How many rounds are save to fire without hurting it? I know it's inherently inaccurate but I don't want to make it worse. Am I babying my AK?

I baby my AK as well....

I try not to get her smoking.... cancer you know :neener:

AK's can take a lot of abuse, I would fire one like that too if I had unlimited ammo to use up.

rapid firing wont hurt an AK, thats what they were designed for.;)

BigG thats a beautiful rifle. What exactly is it? Particularly where did you get the furniture? And is the rifle refinished?

Cyberdyne systems,

AK's can take a lot of abuse, I would fire one like that too if I had unlimited ammo to use up.

This is true. I've often fired AK's 'til the cosmoline boiled out of handguards and the barrel pinged like an overheated car.

rapid firing wont hurt an AK, thats what they were designed for. :D

This is false. Like any other weapon, extensive firing through an overheated barrel will damage the rifling and chamber throat. There's no magical fairy dust in an AK's barrel that protects it from this. On the other hand, most folks never fire their AK for accuracy anyway, so who cares? As long as it's capable of "minute-of-gallon-jug" at 100 yards and "minute-of-junked-appliance" at two hundred, go for it.

Yep, mine can still hit a B27 target at 100 yards. It ain't the prettiest group, but as you said, I'm not firing for accuracy Just for fun!
