MEC Super Sizer

A neighbor dropped by yesterday and gave me a couple reloading tools Mec Super Sizer w/ 20 ga & 12 ga inserts plus a 3 die RCBS die set in 30 carb. with a # 17 shell holder. he wouldn't take any $$ for them, I offered ! The invoice was in the box, he only paid $34.00 for the Mec.
Sorry for the double post.

It's just extra assurance. I loaded thousands upon thousands of trap loads, case well as duck/pheasant loads just using the sizing ring on my 600jr. Back when paper hulls and hi brass were more common, it was necessary. They are still made, and some loaders prefer them. Those loaders use either a Super Sizer or a Grabber press, which has it built in. If you are loading low brass plastic hulls, the sizer rings in the deprime station work fine.
But since I have a Super Sizer, I use it.

Do you feel it is necessary to use one when loading for an auto loader....?
Does the MEC 600 Jr. Mark IV not produce loaded shells acceptable for an auto loader...?
I am working on gathering info on going down that rabbit hole that is shotshell loading..... 🤔

Shot shells can be finicky, it’s not like metallic reloading, wads, hulls, powder charge, shot charge and size (diameter) all have to be matched, unless you enjoy frustration. I have used my 600 JR and even an antique LMC, for a few semiautos without issue. MEC does point to the problem they were trying to solve in the trouble shooting portion of the 600jr manual though.

Not sure I have ever had that happen though.

It is easier to adjust than the built in sizer. I find mine helpful on some of the brass plated steel high brass cases. Particularly with my 20 gauge Benelli that has tighter chambers than my other 20s.

I’ve also had one shell that had an oversized rim. It’s a hard problem to find in the field but once you get the offending shell found it’s easy to just toss it.
