I've just rediscovered the CCU and I am seriously thinking on getting one to use with my Colt government .45acp frame. Originally I was planning on getting the upper in 10mm auto in order to bump up the power I would get from this carbine, but upon further review, i think the .460 is the logical choice. I already have several .45acp magazines, reloading supplies, and plenty of ammo.

I want the .4600 over the basic .45acp model for the increased power, which I may utilize for hog hunting at some point. At the very least, the extra power should help with trajectory issues at the 100 yard mark, correct? What are the top specs I could expect this round to produce out of the longer barrel of this carbine?

Additionally, if later I want to suppress this system, the 10mm would have to be downloaded to .45acp power levels for best effect anyway.

I'm looking for first hand info on the quality, durability, accuracy, and reliability of the mechtech ccu, as well as opinions on the set up I'm planning to go with which is:

CCU in .460 Rowland
Telestock
Mono-rail
No muzzle brake

This utilizing my Colt government stainless frame in .45acp

Well, a downloaded 10mm could be loaded with heaviest-available projectiles, I think 220-230 is about the limit for .400" pistol bullets, and may be a better penetrator for it, while still leaving you the same benefits 10mm gives you with ordinary supersonic loads when you want to use those instead.

Though the .460 will give you so much more capability you might just want to go that route. Lots of heavy .452" bullets and molds around too, as long as they feed ok.

Can't help w/ the tele stock or mono-rail. You can get about 1700fps w/ 200gr bullets and well over 1600fps w/ 230s.

I've shot the XD version in 460 Rowland, and would highly recommend that. The 1911 one is also very good according to the person I borrowed the XD CCU from. Only thing I would say is play around with different loads. The Rowland was designed to be efficient out of 5 inch barrels, and you could probably wring more performance out of the round with a slower powder. And i would definitely get the M4 stock or substitute a light AR stock, it might not be a 30-06, but it kicks in 460 and you want a good cheek weld. It's already compact

I do wish they made a MechTech with a more traditional appearance for the 1911 though. Like a Thompson A1 upper with an M3 stock. It's certainly an ugly gun for a functional purpose.

I love my CCUs. They were the main reason I SBRed a couple Glocks (before I got my Roni Chassis). 1911 takes care of the Safety question.
