I've been using corncob media in a Frankfort Arsenal tumbler to clean my cases. It works fine but the media gets stuck in my .223 cases. I've been using a small drill bit to clean out the cases but it's very tedious. Anybody have a faster way to get the media out? Thanks.

I use walnut hull media, which frequently sticks in the flash holes of any deprimed cases I tumble, but not in the case body. Running the cases through a decapper/resizing die during the loading process punches out any jammed media.

Make sure that you're using media that's ground fine enough. Don't decap prior to tumbling. I load a lot of .223; never have media stuck in the cases.

I have a tool that works real great for removing media from primer pockets and flash holes...AND IT'S FREE :D ...Even though I use a media that does not plug up my flash holes and primer pockets I still use this FREE tool to clean out my primer pockets of primer residue. Would you like to know what it is??? Oh I love the suspense. Don't you???

If you have a choke, throttle, emergency stop or any solid wire pull cable lying around the garage, shop or barn, just cut it just short of the guide rod at the handle end and Wha-Laa...There you have it. The best primer pocket and flash hole cleaning tool you ever had...AND IT'S FREE.... :neener:

Or get ahold of some Olsen's Media. But you will still find this tool neat for cleaning primer pockets. :p

Two words.... PAPER.... CLIP

Easy, cheap and free *without* hosing up a throttle cable :)

Another option is one of the rotary media seperators from Frankford Arsenal. Cost is less then $20 bucks and it works like a champ.

FWIW

Three words..."Paperclip too small". :neener: Nothing to hold onto and I will suggest a used or broken pull cable so you aren't choppin' up a new one..

Why Hello BigSlick...And how are you this fine Saturday morning. I just got back from the ranch and a shoing of one of my horses...$90.00 later :what: . Not sure which is more expensive...Horses or guns...But I'll keep them both. :)

Never had that problem with media sticking anywhere, and I decap before tumbling. I use Frankford walnut media in a Frankford small tumbler, and then sift the stuff out through a colander and plastic baggie. Always worked just fine. The stuff is ground exceedingly fine, and I haven't seen it stick in anything. That is using 9mm, 7.62x54Rmm and 7.62x39mm cases.

I don't worry about media in the flash hole. Experiments done by others have shown that it doesn't raise pressure or affect accuracy or reliability. Bench rester shooters, being averse to the minutest difference in their rounds, will surely want clean flash holes. It seems to me that the rest of us needn't worry about it.

Put your brass in your tumbler without media, put on your muffs, and hold onto the base of the tumbler while you turn it on.
You using too much polish?
If your media is too dirty it will get stuck in the cases, if it's clean there should be no problems.
