I can't remember what this part is to......maybe for my Forster Trimmer, but if it is, I don't remember for what? Anybody seen this, or know what it is? I hate getting old.

Above: from the inside, there is a sharp edge in the center hole, a cutter?

Above: outside nice bluing, and a set screw.....stumped.

I think it's part of the forster inside/outside deburring setup but I'm not sure. It doesn't look like any of the attachments that go with my forster trimmer and I thought I had most of them. forster_dbt-base_800.jpg

I thought of the Forster possibility as I was posting, and looked at all the Forster information in manuals and on the internet.....nothing. The inside/outside deburring tool looked promising but no, the set screw is not in the same place and there's no way it could deburr anything....least not by itself. And the hole in which some kind of shaft goes into is wider than Forester's shaft.....this part measures .571" (14.47mm) on my calipers.

It could deburr though.....just needs a tube set screwed inside and the brass inside the tube.....but I never bought anything like that.....there are simpler ways....like the RCBS Trimmate I DO have.

I do have the outside neck trimmer parts for the Forster, but that isn't one of them. Still stumped. Thanks for the replies.

Do you have a case prep center? It looks similar to the one on my RCBS case prep machine. My RCBS one even has a set screw to lock it on the spinning post. Not exact, but very similar. Maybe a different brand? Screenshot_20220408-232713_Gallery.jpg It definitely appears to be a outside case deburring tool.

I do, the original RCBS Trim Mate, and the deburring tools are on it and I use them all the time. But this thing has no threads for a stem and the hole on that end is twice the size. I have never owned another brand of deburring tool except the hand tool that deburrs on one end and chamfers on the other. Set-screw is on the other end. Still totally stumped.

Gotta be either Lee, Forster or RCBS. The only other brands I have is Dillon brass polish, and a Lyman dry tumbler. ;) .....and I've never bought a grab bag at a gun show....

One could slide a .50 cal neck into it....but why would you set-screw that? (I don't do .50 cal) Must set-screw another part......maybe it would be healthier to just throw is away.....then I'd figure it out and need it, and buy another one.....

Was pretty sure it is a dohickey, but that set screw makes me wonder if it is chingaderra?
The set screw would lock the whatchamacallit.

I have drawer full of pieces and attachments.
I am beginning to need a bigger drawer.
This kind of thing happens to me every time somebody brings me a box of stuff. Old stuff, new stuff, stuff in the wrong boxes, stuff all tossed in the same boxes that don’t go together. It’s always stuff they don’t want but must be valuable or they would have thrown it away, and it’s probably stuff I can use since I’m into stuff that requires stuff like that. I set the boxes of stuff aside until I have time to look through them then wonder where this stuff came from and why I’ve got it?

I'm obviously not as popular as you......almost nobody brings me stuff. If they did, I wouldn't worry about this so much.....I'd have drawerfuls like some of you. ;) But I am a person who's "into stuff that requires stuff like that." I say almost.....a friend brought me a shot maker and a big bar of linotype after his Dad died.....which I stored for him until he found another friend who might actually use it. So I donated it back.:)

BTW, so this is a great and glorious day?.....we do have the moron......

I have a jug for mystery gun powder.
I have a box for mystery tools like mentioned in original post.
I have a box of broken tools awaiting trip to proper store store to replace.
I have 5 gallon buckets of hardware I too frugal to chunk and too lazy to sort.
I have a 5 gallon bucket of steel cartridge cases I might need one day.
I have bucket of Berdan cases for a rainy day.
I have lots of stuff!!!!
My wife says I’m a pack rat! But is always glad when I fix one of her broken items!:)

They say the memory is the second thing to go.

It is a tool to put on the cutter to tighten it.
