Anybody here have any metal gong targets that hold up to 7.62x54, .223, and 7.62x39 at 100 yards?

I've seen the ones at Metaltargets.com and they seem reasonable...just wonder if there's something out there I'm missing.

Thanks in advance...

Here is a pic of two gongs that were used with rifles for a long time. I think the smaller one was a softer steel, thus the giant divots torn out of it. Better steel is expensive but it makes a difference.

Great pic. Along with the previously mentioned calibres, would any gong stand up to both those and 7.62 NATO? Accidentaly shot a .22 spinner target with a .308 once :uhoh:  . I'm not trying out any more "personal experience" tests with metal plate until I hear of one that will work  .

just get a 2 inch thick peice of hard steel, they have those welded to rebar at my range and they make a very satisfying noise when hit with .308 (i dont even know if .308 made a dent in it :uhoh: )

Swing by some construction companies and see if you can have or buy a 'used' dozer blade panel. They're a couple inches thick, take about 4 men to lift, and will stop a 50 BMG (non-ap).

You could probably even get them to cut one down so it's more manageable to transport, hang, etc.

I'm using one from metaltargets.com and it's pretty good. (XM193 5.56mm is fine) It's a 10 inch and I think it was $65. Make sure to get the HV models though as the other models will definately get major dents in it when you hit it with 5.56.

I think MetalTargets.com has some rated for .50bmg but I don't know what the prices are.

Have a good one,
Dave

Thanks for the replies. I'd love to get a big 2" piece of steel plate but I'm looking for something I can carry out to 100 yards and then take home with me when I'm done.

Sounds like the metaltargets.com HV one is what I'll need to go with.
