Metastatic prostate cancer

You got it Snuffy, Payers being sent daily. I am in that age group and I guess if you live long enough you will get the prostate cancer. You are right on target with your advise. God bless you and keep posting.

Snuffy, prayers for you and your family.
Thank you for sharing, and for recommending we all consider the check ups.
I'm 53 and I had the full monty - colonoscopy a year or so ago. My father had colon cancer, so I was high risk. The PSA levels were fine, the finger test was negative as well, but since I had passed the big 50, Doc said - hey let's take a look!
Well, thankfully everything was good to go.
But, I do recognize the importance of getting everything checked out.

I also had an irregular EKG result, apparently caused by a small branch block. So, a full round of cardio check ups, including the stress test. Again, everything came out OK.

Snuffy, My thoughts and prayers are with you. I just finished week 7 of 9 weeks of radiation for prostate cancer. I am about the same age as you. Don't give up.

metastatic prostate cancer
Recent problems with my lower spine led me to get a MRI of that region. It showed several spots where metastatic bone cancer had started to grow. It interfered with my natural ability to control my bowel.

Metastatic prostate cancer is what happens when the prostate cancer morphs around it's need for testosterone to grow. The hormone therapy I've been on since 2010 is called Eligard. It sweeps testosterone from the blood, robbing the prostate cancer of what it needs to grow. Sometimes called chemical castration.

It's basically a death sentence, I may have a year left, possibly a bit more.

Two chemotherapy drugs in pill form will be used to fight it. One is prednisone, a steroid the other is Zytiga, abiraterone acetate, a targeted drug that has shown promise in slowing the growth of the cancer. Some studies say it doubles the life expectancy of some men.

I guess what I'm asking for is prayers and well wishes, but most importantly to ask all of you over 55 YO to go get the fickle finger test!!!! Along with a blood test to check your PSA! The earlier you catch it the longer you'll live.

BTW this is all being handled by my VA doctors at the VA clinic up in Green Bay WI. They're very good oncologists, and have all the modern knowledge and drugs to treat it. I'm in good hands!
Prayers to you, brother!

Back in 2006 the doctor told me those dreaded words “You’ve got cancer”. I had stage 3 tonsils cancer and was given 6 months to live without treatments. Treatments were worse then the cancer, I had to take a year of sick leave. At times I wanted to give up, but I guess it was the Marine in me and the good Lord that kept me fighting.
The last 12 years I’ve been dealing with issues caused by the treatments, but I’m still here. I made up my mind when going through treatments that I was going to live every day until I died, I’m still doing that today.
Keep up the fight Snuffy, never give up and find something to laugh about every day. God will hold your hand through the hard time and will always be there for you.

You are in my prayers, brother.

On a related subject, if any of you are also motorcyclists, then you might want to check into a fund raiser for men's prostate cancer research called the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. One day, 120,000 riders, 650 cities, 30 countries world-wide. Lots of funny YouTube videos. Check it out.

Gunny that made me smile! I'm smiling a lot more after feeling the love and well wishes coming from the board, but no surprise , that's the High Road normal. Even numerous PM's that made me feel better.

I haven't shot anything at a range for at least a year, having no testosterone in your blood leaves you feeling pretty tired. I did cast, coat, size, and load some 9mm for my son's cz, I still have to make some for myself. I wait til I don't hurt too bad so I'm not on narcotics to ease the pain.

I need to clean and organize the loading room so my son doesn't have a giant job trying to determine what to toss and keep. That'll uncover some treasures that I'm sure some here might want. Look for things coming up of the PIF link!

A day without pain, while going through treatments was hard to come by. I was on morphine and other things for pain. I also know about being tired all the time. Just finding the energy to walk from the living room to the kitchen, to get something to drink, was hard. It was even harder finding the energy to do the things I liked to do.
Get you some good books and movies for those days.
When I was able to live at home on my own again, I had a spot outside where I had a bench that I would sit and enjoy the day. Funny that I don’t have the time to sit there these days.

Remember to find the things that bring joy to your life and shear them with your family.

Snuffy my prayers with you, keep strong and you will beat it, it is no easy and is painful.
However, many won that battle, do not give up an inch. Even in worst moments remember those days of happiness to bust you.
Snuffy don't let it touch your spirit keep strong.

Not a one of us has an expiration date stamped on our forehead. It has always been my desire to live every day to the fullest and when my expiration date comes I won't be disappointed. I was almost killed in an oilfield accident years ago and during that incident I realized that I was not afraid of death. Several times in my life I have been shown that God is taking care of me and only he knows my expiration date, and it is the same for each of us. Snuffy I wish you well and hope you have many happy days in front of you. You have many friends and well wishers on The High Road.

Snuffy: know we are all here for you, and are praying for a full recovery. As others have stated, you have to be strong and NEVER give up, even when you want to.

Praying right now...

Thank you for sharing @snuffy, and I’m sorry you’re having to go through this, but by your post it appears your spirits are high and you’re not letting it get you down and rob you of what time you may have left, that’s the most important!

I lost my dad 3 years ago to Stage 3 prostate cancer it metasticized into his bone and lymphatic system, but there was not a day that went by that he felt sorry for himself instead he made the most of his year and a half with cancer in spending quality time with the grandkids and family. It’s hard without him but it’s only a temporary separation which grants us great peace.

Praying for you and your family @snuffy, spend the time making new memories they are salve for the soul for your family!
