here is something interesting, they have these little cannons in .177, .22, and 30 caliber, they look like a lot of fun! i think one of these little cannons could be fired in the backyard on 4th of July without bugging the neighbors even! add some airgun pellets for the .177 and .22 and you can shoot pop cans in your backyard! add a 30 caliber bullet to the 30 caliber mortar and you have projectiles to shoot! i think i might get some brass and make one of these for myself, they look too fun not to own!

With a mortar that's intended to be shot at a high angle I just can't see the point unless you can see the ball come back down. With a .177 or .22 pellet the darn thing with any amount of powder at all would come down either outside the house after blasting through the upper floor and roof or in some neighbour's yard a few lots away. And why should THEY have all the fun of seeing it land?

Nope, I'll take a mortar that at least shoots golf balls so I can load the dayglo pink or green ones and watch them throughout their flight path and note where they land downrange on a target placed on the ground.

.... Hmmmm.... How heavy are 5 pin bowling balls again?

If you have a lathe, it's

Easy enough to make your own.

I seriously doubt that...not enough velocity or mass to come down and go through a normal houses' roof!

True.. very true... I'm still messin' with renos to the basement to build my retirement workshop areas for all my hobbies. Once that's done and I unload the garage of the "Boxes of my Life" and can set up the machines a small series of black powder cannons and mortars are definetly on the To Do list.

I foretell lots of smoke and grinning in my future about a year from now.... :D
