I inherited the shotgun my dad carried as I was growing up.

It shoots a 23/4 & 3” round. I’m not sure what year that became a thing, we always used 2 /34”. I guess I thought that was more recent.

What I am interested in is using this gun to shoot slugs for late season deer around here. I presume that is fine, I don’t want to make a rear end out of myself though, so here I am asking… Would it be worth $300 to buy a rifled barrel for my PA08???

I am also mildly interested in asking if I could shoot steel from it. I have my WBY PA08 so, I have that covered…but when did companies start making their barrels ‘steel worthy’?

Beat up old gun, but it is what I dreamed for when he was carrying that and I had my SxS…Of course now I value learning to shoot with that SxS…

Thanks
Greg

Take it to the range with slugs and try it. I suggest trying a couple of brands. I have a smooth bore 870 that groups with Remington slugs and patterns with Winchester slugs. I'd hunt with the Remington, wouldn't with the Winchester.

Btw I had a 67E in the mid 80's. Liked the basic wood stock and corncob forearm.

As mentioned try some slugs and see how it shoots. Getting a rifled slug barrel is a huge step up. Your shooting jacketed bullets in a sabot that drops away. Much more accurate and has about a 250 yard usable range. My son's Mossberg likes the Hornady SSTs. A 350gn 45cal bullet IIRC. 3 shot groups under 2" at 100yds. Usually 2 touching.
