Two men described as 'Middle Eastern' seen driving a semi-truck that made a stop at a Colorado gas station are the focus of a nationwide alert issued by the FBI, according to a report by KUSA-TV in Denver.

The men driving the 18-wheeler reportedly stopped at a Hess station Thursday afternoon in the town of Byers, about forty miles east of Denver.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorist Task Force got involved when an attendant saw the men apparently trying to put unleaded gasoline into the truck. The attendant had to tell the pair to use diesel fuel instead.

The men fueled up with the correct gas, paid in cash and then headed toward Interstate 80 in northeastern Colorado.

Few details of the FBI alert, which was released Friday afternoon, have been made available to the media.

The name on the truck is 'Real Transport' and it has a Quebec, Canada, license plate number RS7-116.

Authorities reportedly ran a check on the plate and determined it's not currently registered.

About a week ago I read that an 18 wheeler carrying some chemical that could be used in explosives was hijacked on the west coast, I don't remember the details and don't recall any followup to the story, maybe someone else knows? Could this be related?

Lemme see here. We have some middle eastern types drive up to a Hess gas station and attempt to put gasoline (I assumed unleaded) into a diesel truck engine. So the goober goes out to help them NOT screw up! If the situation was sufficiently squirrelly to call the federales after they left, why not just let them proceed to fill the diesel fuel tanks with gas. Call the federales and tell them to look for a semi parked by the roadside.

There is nothing like helping an executioner fashion the noose by which he intends to hang you.

Come on people! We're Americans. We're a heap smarter than this.

Could be that the guy at the gas station was from the same shallow end of the gene pool as the goofuses trying to put gas in a diesel truck.
Being stupid and/or ignorant doesn't make them automaticly terrorists, but it does make them potential Darwin Award candidates.

If they were East of Denver they likely were going onto I-76 which intersects with I-80 in Nebraska West of Ogallala. I-80 does not go into Colorado at all. It is entirely North of Colorado.

Our motel is on I-80 and Hwy 71 at exit 20 in Nebraska East of the Wyoming border.

DENVER - Concern among members of the FBI’s Joint Terrorist Task Force has surfaced in Colorado. A semi-truck driving through the state on Thursday afternoon apparently triggered a nationwide alert going out to law enforcement agencies across the state Friday night.

Only a few specifics of the alert were released. Apparently, it stems from what happened at a Sinclair gas station in Byers around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Byers is about 40 miles east of Denver on I-70.

Two men described as Middle Eastern in an 18-wheeler with a white tractor truck apparently tried to put unleaded gasoline into the truck. An attendant advised them it would not work and told them they needed to use diesel.

The men fueled up with the correct gas, paid in cash and left on Highway 36, which would connect them to I-80 in northeastern Colorado.

The truck has a Quebec, Canada, license plate number RS7-116. The name on the truck is Real Transport.

Authorities ran a check on the license plate and said it was clear, but it does not have a current registration.

The FBI sent out the alert shortly before 5 p.m. Friday. It advises law enforcement officers that if the semi is contacted to identify the occupants and determine if there is a current registration available.

If the FBI has any other reason to be worried about the semi, it's not saying.

There’s no confirmation that this is tied into any possible terrorism, but with the country on high alert, no one wants to take any chances.

I`m having a hard time believing this one. I`ve never been in the cab of an 18 wheeler but I would think anyone with enough training to operate one would be aware of the fuel requirments.

So thay had too fill up in Colorado but were did thay start from and get the truck!! A 18 wheeler can go 800 TO 1000 mile on a tank of fuel.

edit: also, if it was loaded light, you could just skip the splitter. And if you're planning on blowing something up, it doesn't matter if the engine & tranny are ruined.
