Friday morning my boss made the comment that he hadn't hunted the opening day of deer season here in Texas in 6 years. I said to him, why not? Your the boss and we are 3 weeks ahead of schedule.

We all shut down at 1'o'clock, and (without pay mind you) left in a rush to get to our deer leases.

I not wanting to drive the 12 hours to get to my stand, i stayed home, and about 7ish got a text...seen your truck in the drive, lock and load, lets hit the rice. We messed around on some gut piles looking for dogs, and about 11 headed to the rice fields south of town.

Now, earlier in the week, I made the 2 hour drive home to pay some bills, and we had gone out to the rice where I bagged 2 sow's, one of which we butchered, and the other we hauled off for a coyote pile at another piece of property, I have pics of them on the cellphone, but for the life of me I can't get them off of it and onto the computer. So this time I brought my real camera....

6 hogs crossed the field in front of us about midnight, 4 of them where way out there, maybe 5 to 6 hundred yards, 2 of these 3 killed where about 200 out when the cue beams hit them.

The Sow in the first 2 pics was taken right between the eyes at 100 yards as she charged my light. DRT

The boar with the individual picture was shot quartering away at about 200 yards, also DRT

in the Group picture there are 3 hogs, the boar on the left I caught running by at 10 yards with my laser, my aim was off as I was trying to ear shot it but it was still DRT with heavy arterial damage in its neck. It ran out of a ditch as I was takeing out boar #1, and was hugging the opposite side of a brush line until it crossed the road right on top of me.

Field is 300 acres situated amongst 1600 hundred that was farmed for a rice crop earlier this year, the second crop is growing in, though I learned today the farmer is not going to cut it as it would be a poor harvest. Good hunting bait though.

All shots made with a RRA AR-15 shooting 50 grain hollowpoint UMC ammo, some might say, 50 grains!! HOLLOW POINTS! ON HOGS!!! Proof is in the pudding, I have always said that shot placement is key, not one pig even squealed after I pulled the trigger.

Didn't get any wieghts on them, but the sow was an easy 325, prolly more onthe 350 side. the 2 boars still had milk teeth, but where close to 125 each. The boars where taken by a local state trapper for coyote bait, and we used the sow ourselves for a series of gut piles on a third peice of property that my hunting buddy is sitting on as I type this.

We stayed out till 3 am, and saw well over 60 hogs on the property, but these where the only 3 we took as we have dogs comeing in next sunday for some action. Hope to get more pics then.

edit. Notice the cutters on the sow, glad she didn't get to me =)
