Our military issues the Beretta M9 (92). Great Britain issues the Browning L9A1 (Hi-Power). Israel issues the IMI Jericho 941 (Baby Eagle). What are some other military issue firearms from around the world? It seems that steel or alloy framed pistols in 9mm are consistent issue arms. I know there was brief discussion of replacing the M9 for our military use, and the Air Force is still looking for something in 45acp to become their new issue sidearm even though the Army is no longer interested. I'm just curious what collective knowledge there is regarding choices of other countries. Are there no countries issuing the venerable Glock? I read somewhere that the CZ75 is the most issued pistol around the world among military & police units, but haven't actually read of any major military forces issuing this arm. I'm just curious what you all know? Any favorites & why? Anybody using any caliber besides 9x19 NATO? Oh, and what are non-NATO countries using?

Jericho 941 SA issued in Israeli Police and Prison Service.

In the Military ( IDF) you my find :

High Power 9mm Mk3 in Military Police units and several Recon Companies.

Sig 226 and 228 in Recon Companies and SF units such Duvdevan or Oketz (K9).

Glock 17C MOD/Kav Daled model in elite units such Shayetet 13 (Naval Commandos) , Sayeret Matkal (elite LRRP unit ) etc.

Pilots issued with 228 or M16 Commando.

I think Austria issues the Glock as a military sidearm. If I remember correctly the Glock was originally developed and designed as a military sidearm.

trillim, thanks for the info. I got some bad information. I did read that Glock is used among some elite units, as you said, but heard nothing about the Hi-Powers & Sigs being issued.

Turkey uses a number of CZ75's or clones. It is also the issue sidearm for Iran. I think it's greatest use is by police. Brazil uses domestic built 1911's and beretta 92's in 9mm. The germans of cours have the USP. And the Russians have the Yarygin PYa with an extra powerful 9x19

CZ claims the CZ-75 is used by more armies and police than any other pistol. But who uses it? I am not aware of any countries or police that issue the CZ. Is it because most are Eastern European and I am just not hearing about it?

I find it interesting that the Swedish soldiers in the pics are using Bianchi holsters.

Strange claim . Its just not true.

this is from CZ USA website :

CZ 75 B is used by more Govern-ments, Militaries, Police and Security agencies than any other pistol in the world. The CZ 75 is quite possibly the perfect pistol.

And even this claim is not correct.

CZ claims the CZ-75 is used by more armies and police than any other pistol

You know, I have heard this before but I don't get it.
In October 2007 they made a bit of a production of manufacturing the 1 million CZ75. Sounds like a lot, However.......

The Glocks fans will be the first to jump up and say there are 2.5 Million glocks, and while many, prehaps even most, of these guns are in police/security/civilian hands it still trumps the CZ numbers.

Then I step back and say wait a minute, there is something close to 8 million Hi Powers in circulation, and it was/is the most widely adopted military pistol ever.

I always try to take any firearms marketing with a grain of salt.

2.5 Million glocks

2.5 million guns of one brand (glock) or of one MODEL.

the CZ75 is an individual model. so if the numbers are true

CZ makes 1 model that sells almost 1/2 of what glocks 10+ models do

trillim, thanks for the info. I got some bad information. I did read that Glock is used among some elite units, as you said, but heard nothing about the Hi-Powers & Sigs being issued.

Sig P228 used by our Navy Seals
Sig P226 used by our Navy Criminal Investigations Squad (NCIS)

As for the Hi Power... you got me there I couldn't tell you

Another weapon out there is the Colt 45 clone and Iraq uses that still from what I remember seeing when I was out there in 2004

As questions go, this one is really a mess, since there are a whole mess of countries who issue a variety of different pistols to their militaries and security forces either due to limited resources (or extended replacement schedules), varying requirements for a handgun, or multiple agencies each procuring their own handgun(s), etc.

Bersa Thunder 9

Argentina Armed Forces

Argentina Federal Police

Various police forces around South America and elsewhere

HorseSoldier,
I realized when I wrote the question there would be a vast array of different pistols & calibers used by special forces, military police, etc. I was mostly curious about primary issue arms for majorities of other country's military. I was also rather dubious of CZ's claim, and wanted to make sure my suspicious were grounded.
I know there are people on this thread from various regions of the world, and it's good to hear from some of them. legion3, you've come up with quite a bit of information, do you have a solitary source, or have you gathered all this information? I tried to find some kind of listings like this, but was unsuccessful.

Hold Your Horses There, Usmcdk....

The SIG sauer website posts a news item that the US Naval Criminal Investigations Service aka; NCIS will now get the SIG P-229 DAK model .40S&W. :D

Rusty S

I do not think they had the P-226 but the 9mmNATO P-228 models.
