I am very interested in buying older military guns.....where can I find some. I am willing to travel outside of the metro area within reason. thanks for any and all info.

Mil Surplus

Get a C&R license from BATF and you can have a Curio&Relic eligible gun delivered to your door. See Cruffler.com lots of info. I got one ( $30.00 )and started collecting.O C

im actually looking for places in GA that I can buy them in store. I appreciate the input and will keep it in mind but I really enjoy window shopping and handling B4 I buy.

thanks spieler...I actually shoot in forest park near the farmers market, ill have to check this place out.

Hello Don...

Pannells up in NW Atlanta also has some C&R - had a couple M39's last time I was up that way. Randy @ Bullseye in Lawrenceville also has a couple in stock from time to time. Also check out Moss Pawn - he's normally got several C&R guns in stock as well as ammo for them.

If you're shooting at GA Range & Guns near the airport you may also want to check out Autrey's...much nicer indoor range and a much safer neighborhood. There's also a couple good outdoor ranges a little further south, like South River Gun Club near Covington. (Membership required but it's a really nice all inclusive range).

great info casique500...thanks...I've thougt about going to autreys. I will definatley look into your leads.

I haven't been there in years but "The Gun Store" on the north side just inside the perimeter off of Buford Hwy used to have tons of Mil Surp and assorted EBRs.

Don't know how they've changed but I've been meaning to drop by sometime. Anyone been recently?

I went there last year a few times when I was looking for my first 357 mag....they didn't have any mil-surp.they did have a lady an old like 4'8....who looked so sweet and ypu would not expect her to be a gunnie....but she knew EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERY GUN....AMAZING. I miss her..lol

Don Lu, check out any pawn shops in your area. All of the pawn shops in my area (N.W. GA) are loaded down with Mil Surplus Last time I looked,(four or five months ago) prices were not to bad. Anyway, hope you find what you are looking for.

I'm assuming (with you shooting in Forest Park) that you live on the south side of Atlanta. If you want mil-surps take a trip to Bostwick (between Madison and Athens) and go to Brock's Surplus. Well worth the drive for a mil-surp nut. (I love the store.) Just be sure to take plenty of money or plastic. You will be wanting something.

You can also check them out at, www.brocksguns.com

Brock's and Forest Park A/N are the best stocked in town. FP has a lot of not for sale neat memorabilia from the various wars on display as well that is cool to check out.

JFWIII,

I actually found Brocks website 2 days ago..they have great stuff. I saw a Luger, I cant get it right now as it was 2500.00 but I wonder if the one they have sells today, how soon would they get another ? or is it once its gone, you may never see it again....anyone know. milsurp is very new to me so any input would be helpful.

All I will say is better do some serious homework (internet, books, talking to dealers at shows etc.) before you start plunking down on the big ticket items. Easy to get burned there. Likely a 2500 buck Luger is not going anywhere soon. Go take note of all the markings and condition, and then do some research. Google is your friend. There is no shortcut if you are interested in collecting.

And BTW, Moss Pawn off Tara Blvd at I-75 generally has a few nice items also. They are only about 5 min. from Forest Park.

Don, that's one of those things you never know. If it sells today, they may have another tomorrow, or they may never get another one. If they do get another one, it may be in better, or worse, condition than the other. Most of their inventory comes from other collectors; that have either changed the scope of their collection, passed away, or have upgraded. Hugh Brock used to do his own importing, but they now have relatively few current imports on hand.

They have a near 100% Chilean Mauser now that they got from a collector because he found one in better shape. With a quick (5 minute) glance over it, I found absolutely no blemishes on it. John, then showed me the only blemish, though original, the rear sight was (ever so slightly) discolored. I couldn't notice it in interior lighting, I had to get it in natural light to be able to see it. It left me wanting to see the rifle that that collector upgraded to.

Last fall I bought (from Brock's), an AG-42, and an SVT-40 after years of looking. Within a couple of weeks they had 2 more AG-42s. One in slightly better condition, one in slightly worse. They still haven't replaced the SVT.

But anyway, their site is nice for keeping up with their new inventory. But the pictures don't do enough justice for many of their firearms. It's worth the time (and money) to go see them in person. I usually try to get over their every 2-3 months, I just have the problem of usually returning home with a hitch-hiker,:D:D:D.

Edit for addition; Gilroy, I thought the same thing about a Type 2 Jap. Paratrooper for $1900. I looked at it for several months and couldn't make myself pull the trigger (no pun intended). It sold about 2 weeks before I was going to go get it. There may be another one some time, there may not. That's part of the fun of collectible Mil-Surps, you just never know (what, when, or where) you may happen across something of interest to you. You just have to be prepared with both money and knowledge.
