I need a new gas block for my Mini 14 (the screw sheared off in my current one). Can anyone tell me anything about the adjustable gas block from Accuracy Systems Inc? Is this worth the extra $ over the Ruger Factory gas block which is only $28, but requires factory installation? (No idea why the factory install is required :scrutiny: )

New Accuracy Systems Tuneable Gas Block

Tired of hitting the fellow 3 shooting benches down in the head and him throwing the brass back at you?
Tired of having to change gas bushings only to find you didn't get the right diameter installed and had to start the process all over again?
Our new gas system will allow you to save all the lost brass that is ejected normally 20 to 30 feet by your factory gas system.
Our new gas system will save your scope as well as your receiver during the violent impact that happens every time you fire a round off and the operating rod whacks the receiver.
Our new gas system will actually help your rifle shoot better by reducing the harmonics that are produced when the operating rod comes in contact with your receiver during high speed cycling of the operating rod.
Our new gas system can be tuned from no cycling at all for you single shot bench shooters to wide open for you high capacity magazine junkies who don't care where there brass ends up.
*Our new gas block offers a factory look but with an enhanced feature of a user friendly Quick release sling swivel hole. Instead of the unfriendly non-removable factory sling loop. Ours is even the correct width so you can use the swivel of your choice.

Installation is as easy as removing the four factory screws that hold your gas block top and bottom together. Then installing our new gas block, new gas pipe, your gas bushing and putting your four factory screws back in. We then suggest that you load up a magazine and fire a round, notice where the brass lands then adjust the tuning screw a half turn and repeat the process till the out come you desire is met.

PRICE $89.95

Be aware that getting the factory gas block off can be difficult. Those screws are on there TIGHT. A buddy of mine tried to remove the gas black from his Mini awhile back so he could install a scout scope mount. The screws were so tight he was afraid he would strip them if he kept trying, so he eventually would up taking it to a gunsmith.

The hard part is done - its already off.

Wierd situation. I had never ever touched those screws or attempted to take the gas block off and then one day at the range I glance down at the gun and one of the screws was sheared and a signficant length was left inside of the top plate. Spent hours trying to get it out, but no cigar. :cuss:
So now one little screw that broke is going to cost me $100 anyway I look at it. The cost of shipping, parts, and labor to have Ruger replace the gas block may make the Accuracy Systems product worth the $. I am just hoping for a little feedback........

This subject actually came up (ETA: not right here after all... must have been PerfectUnion or AR15.com. Oops.) only a few days ago. One of the pearls of knowledge that was revealed was that the screws which hold the gas block on are staked in place at the factory on some Mini's. hence all the guys who end up stripping them and having to have a gunsmith drill them out.
Another thing is that alligning a new factory style gas block is a fairly tough job, and it's very tricky to line them up in such a way that you get just the right ammount of gas for optimum functioning. That's why Ruger reccomends factory service in this situation.

Sent it in to Ruger.

ruger wants to factory install this for the cash and the fact that the gun ever explodes they are insured and the weapon is approved beforehand for hidden damages.Accuracy Systems will send you the info if you request it as far as an address you will have to look on line. best of luck nice choice of weapon in my opinion as a vet. and x rangemaster in the ARMY. :banghead:

I bought an adjustable gas block from Brownells and it works great. I don't remember the cost but the only problem I remember when installing the new one was to keep the gaps equal when tightening the screws.

If Mr. Red State is to be believed it broke in normal use and was not abused. It should be covered by Ruger's non-warranty.
