I know Mini 14s have lots of fans and lots of detractors also. I got a Mini 14 Tactical I bought about 3 years ago (series 581), it has the heavier barrel so accuracy is better but I just don't fire it enough, lucky enough to own a few firearms. I got a chance to trade even up on a new DPMS Oracle (.223). Any input on this from owners of either of these firearms.

I like and have both. They are very different guns...I don't think that I would "swap" one for the other. I had the AR first, early 80's, then I added the Mini, late 80's, I am happy to have both. YMMV

Thats not a trade up, its a trade down. Your rifle is around $700 new, the DPMS Oracle goes for around $500. Its a bottom barrel AR, you could do better.

Although I'd MUCH rather have an AR than a mini. That said I would not make that trade. The mini is more valuable than the DPMS. ARs are as cheap as they've ever been. If you want one either just buy a better quality gun or sell the mini and put that money towards a quality AR.

I would rather have the DPMS, but the Ruger is worth more. I definitely wouldn't trade straight across. An even better plan would be to sell the Mini and buy/build a higher quality AR like BCM, Colt, PSA premium, etc.
