To risk Unreliability with almost any type of gun, “go cheap”.

Is it worth it, to avoid paying extra for an OEM mag?.
Let’s ponder the reasons -why- OEM mags are usually -able- to ‘command’ higher prices than aftermarket brands.

Some of us prefer “peace of mind”.

I've never seen such a thing you speak of. The 5.56x45mm magazine well for the Mini-14 is not compatible with AR STANAG pattern magazines.

Are you modifying AR mags to work in the Ruger?

Once upon a time, there was a magazine that fit both. I believe it disappeared after 1994.

Made by Ramline, it was horrible. I had a few of them. It was advertised as working in the AR-15, AR-180, and Mini-14. All it did was jam in all three

Yup -- still have a couple in a box somewhere. The plastic body would flex enough that the feed lips spread and gave double feeds or watch half the rounds pop out when dropped.
