misfire in 1 gun but fires in another

I loaded 45-70 405 gn cast gas check bullets, 3031 powder, WLR primers in mixed cases for a friend. He tried firing 3 rds, 2 misfired, 1 fired. All 3 looked like normal primer strikes, the dents looked the same. I think he tried shooting them in a Rossi, I loaded the 2 misfired rds in my 1895 Marlin and fired them both with no problem. All 3 fired rds look identical primer dents. He has bought Hornady Leverevolution factory rds and fired them with no prooblem. Can the primers be too hard for the ones that I loaded? Any ideas?
