Venus Ramsey shot out a tire on a thief's truck. Not bad for an 82 year old, balancing herself on a walking stick.

Thanks to Allahpundit at "Hot Air" for the link, and the "The Enquirer" for the story.

(I'll bet she's still as good looking!)

WAYNESBURG, Ky.- Miss America 1944 has a talent that likely has never appeared on a beauty pageant stage: She fired a handgun to shoot out a vehicle's tires and stop an intruder. Venus Ramey, 82, confronted a man on her farm in south-central Kentucky last week after she saw her dog run into a storage building where thieves had previously made off with old farm equipment.
Ramey said the man told her he would leave. "I said, 'Oh, no you won't,' and I shot their tires so they couldn't leave," Ramey said.
She had to balance on her walker as she pulled out a snub-nosed .38-caliber handgun.
"I didn't even think twice. I just went and did it," she said. "If they'd even dared come close to me, they'd be 6 feet under by now."
Ramey then flagged down a passing motorist, who called 911.
Curtis Parrish of Ohio was charged with misdemeanor trespassing, Deputy Dan Gilliam said. The man's hometown wasn't immediately available. Three other people were questioned but were not arrested.
After winning the pageant with her singing, dancing and comedic talents, Ramey sold war bonds and her picture was adorned on a B-17 that made missions over Germany in World War II, according to the Miss America Web site.
Ramey lived in Cincinnati for several years and was instrumental in helping rejuvenate Over-the-Rhine historic buildings. She returned to Kentucky in 1990 to live on her farm.
"I'm trying to live a quiet, peaceful life and stay out of trouble, and all it is, is one thing after another," she said.

World peace, one crook at a time.

This article has a great quote.

Deputies responding to a 911 call arrested Curtis Parish of Ohio for trespassing.

Parish complained to deputies that Ramey tried to shoot him in the leg.

Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff Danny Gilliam told the Interior Journal, "I think she shot exactly where she intended to shoot."

Hope you guys like it. :D

"She had to balance on her walker as she pulled out a snub-nosed .38-caliber handgun." - My favorite line in the story.

I just picture her using the walker as a support as she does the "Double-Sabrina" and flattens the tires. Can you imagine the crap the thug took at the lockup when the other hoodlums found out that The Gunning Granny stopped his feloneous adventure?

What a lady! Wonder if she has any single 20 something granddaughters? :)

Also what's this story Thain mentioned about a seventy year old marine punching out a mugger? I vaguely heard one from a friend about an elderly SAS soldier messing up 3 or more punks who attacked him on the street in England once.

It can be done. Miss America did it!

Actually on second read it seems the car was not moving. Still very, very impressive. They don't make Miss America's like they used to.

Cool lady.:)

Something like the elderly lady, recently in the DFW area, who fought a young carjacker's gun away from him and shot him with it.:D

Quote from article

<<Ramey said the man told her he would leave. "I said, 'Oh, no you won't,' and I shot their tires so they couldn't leave," Ramey said.>>

And

<<I didn't even think twice. I just went and did it," she said. "If they'd even dared come close to me, they'd be 6 feet under by now.">>

And people question, the issue about using force and using possibly deadly force to protect property.

Didn’t she know that insurance would have covered it? If she let them go. That her property is replaceable. That a human being is worth more than property.

Clipped from article: << where thieves had previously made off with old farm equipment.>>

Especially, old farm equipment!

That happened in Germany. It was in a British online paper, though.

Some old Marine in the Caribbean area was with some other old folks, when a bunch of thugs came aboard their bus (IIRC). This Marine grabbed one of 'em in a headlock, and the thug ended up dead. Broken neck, asphyxiation, I dunno which. The BG had a gun, I think.
Apparently, the thugs lost all desire to rob the group after that.
