Missed an opportunity on a big deer tonight. Possible scope issue?

I spend a fair amount of time at the range to, among other reasons, be familiar with my scope at different ranges. When I get to my blind, I also range the distance at different spots where the deer (by following the game trails) are likely to emerge. My gun is then propped on my tripod and ready. The last 4 deer I've shot out of that location have dropped on the spot with a clean shot. Of course, I've had to pass up shots when the light was poor (no fault of the scope) or too bright when the sun is directly in my eyes. I try to prepare for as many scenarios as I can imagine and it usually pays off.
