I just received my C&R license from the ATF (in only three weeks no less)! :D Anyway, time to break it in and do some damage. My question for other holders is do I still need to get the pistol purchase permit from the Sheriffs office for C&R qualified handguns? I thought I saw somewhere where it wasn't needed but I haven't had any success tracking the statute down on the web. If anybody has the answer and a link to the statue I'd appreciate it.

As an 03 FFL holder you can buy any C&R handgun instantly, and even via mail and have it shipped to your door if you want, without the Sheriff permit... I've done this many times.

In fact, according to state law, no one needs the Sheriff's permit to buy a C&R handgun even if they DONT have a C&R FFL, C&R pistols are specifically exempt from needing the purchase permit - it is written into the law. I verified this one the web and via a phonecall to a Sheriff's dept about a year ago. But many gun dealers will still require the permit anyway just because they don't know any better.

I don't have any links right now to support it, but this was the truth and stated fact about 1 year ago when I looked into it extensively.

http://www.packing.org/ will probably have a good Missouri link for you to check out the state's firearms law, it will be hiding in there somewhere. The site is down at the moment though, might try later...

SpikeEVo,
Interesting! I did not know this. (the no permit required for C&R qualified handguns if not a C&R holder thing) Can you reference the law...I'd like to copy it and take it with me to a couple gun dealers I frequent. I'd never run across this before.

I have a C&R and enjoy the ability to buy without the permit. It's a great deal having a C&R. I really get more use from the C&R permit in terms of the dealer discounts I get than on gun purchases these days....when you re-load, you need those discounts.

Bob

I found the section of the law with this. I don't have it right now but I'll post it tonight, it was section 572 something. SpikeEVO is correct, according to the language if the gun is C&R qualified you do not need a permit. Of course, a dealer could still require you to get a permit ever if it technically wasn't required.

You guessed it VonFatman. If you've been to Pigeon Hill you might have seen me there. Anyway, as promised:

571.080 Transfer of concealable firearms without permit unlawful-exceptions-antique firearm-permit valid for thirty days-violation, penalty.
3. Subsection 1 of this section shall not apply to the acquisition by or transfer of concealable firearms among manufacturers, wholesalers or retailers of firearms for purposes of commerce;nor shall it apply to antique firearms or replicas thereof; nor shall it apply to curio or relic firearms as defined in section 571.010.

Here's a link I found:

SpikeEVO is right. I just went through this same process a couple of months ago...C&R license=$30....not having to have a PTA from the county sheriff....priceless:D

I'm north in KC too.

Good luck on the C&R purchases, it get's addicting... I've completely run out of room in my apartment for stashing guns, so I'm waiting until I get into my house before I buy any more.

What a small world;
A lot of North KC people here (I live in the Platte Woods area) and found this thread while researching info about Curio-C&R :)

Perhaps we should have a get-together sometime?

Dave

I have thought about getting a C&R is there a list of guns, and what are the other advantages to having one. Or could you point me to a website.
Im just to the south of KC myself.

I go to the source it's self when seeing what covered by the C&R.

http://www.atf.gov/firearms/relics/

There are other advantages as well, both Brownell's and Midway offer discounts to holders. After looking through the Brownell's book their discounts run around 20% depending on the item.

Wow, cool to see a few more from around the KC metro area!!

I have only had my C&R for about six months and have only ordered a couple of things... and it's already more than paid for it's self... get one:D

I'm all for a western Mo eastern KS get together, I keep hoping somebody with some initiative will start the ball rolling:D

Another Kansas City member

I'm in the north part of KC too. Just north of Parkville to be exact. About 5 miles from Parmawoods the Missouri Department of Conservation outdoor range. A get together sounds like a good idea!!!

You know....

Maybe we could get together some weekend or evening after work to shoot?

I have a decent range. Rifle and handgun. Only 100-150 yards for rifle though.

Anyone want to come out?

Ask Shawn if it's a fun place to shoot?

I nominate VonFatman to be the host of a K.C. get-together :)
Nice setup you've got there!

ponyexpress, please let us know if you'd like us to quit hijacking your thread and start a new one in the "Rallying Point" forum.

No way, I am from Savannah. About 10 minutes north of St. Joseph. Nice to meet so many Missourians here.

Sounds like a good idea Bob. No offense about which way the thread is headed. I'm always up for a good get together.
