ok this might be a hard question because of where i am or you are,,, BUT i was at a police/ranger range the other day and was looking for lost brass in the grass, and one of the rangers came out and asked if i wanted to buy any buckets of mixed brass???? i dont know what its worth,,,, it will have 223,40,9mm,45,maybe some 308 and maybe some 38s most of what i find is 223,40,9 but its all mixed in buckets so i dont know for sure what i get,,,

im im middle/east tennessee if that helps any, he was wanting me to make an offer but i didnt know where to start, and i didnt want to make him made and lowball him by accident and get kicked out, (not suppose to be there anyway but they let me) LOL

thanks

Poor man I am/was the brass rat king a near ful 5gal bucket here in kaliforinastan at the scrap yard will get you about $150.00 so if you pay $125 a bucket you will be in good shape. Find out what your local scrap yard will pay and shop around brass is 70% copper. If you have time on your hands you can make some $$ in the last panic I was getting over $1000 a bucket I would post on an auction site start at a penny. I sold 100 once fired f.c. 7.62x39 for $78.00+shipping.
In my option if it has any steel $75.00 no steel $125.00 this way you can't get hurt $$ wise.

thanks guys, il talk to him again, the man carries a GUN i dont want to offend him!!! LOL :)

Call around and get the Scrap Brass per pound price.
That would be what they get if they haulled it to the junk yard.
Then that covers you for the cost of bad brass you have to scrap anyway, like the Berdan or smashed cases.

He probably just wants to get it out of there. I'd start at $20 a bucket:D

What's the worst that can happen?? He might say OK or your crazy, work from there.:)

That's a lot of work ya know you have to sort it and pick out the junk.

Call the nearest scrapyard that takes cartridge brass and ask what they're giving for it. Don't just ask about scrap brass prices. Around here the yards that will take cartridge brass give about $0.20-0.50/lb less for cartridge brass than other types of brass. Part of that is due to them having to shred or melt it if they're going to export it, thanks to stupid ITAR. Once you know what the local scrap yards are giving, offer him half of that. It'll give you both some wiggle room to haggle. If you end up paying scrap price you won't be out anything if it's all somehow junk.

thanks again. il call the only 2 local scrap yards around, il have to keep the price well below scrap because the closest scrap yard to be is 30 miles one way, and i dont know if they would take it (they are kind of small operation) other than that it like 8o miles to a bigger scrap yard ;( thanks

I just took the club's excess brass to the scrap yard two days ago, and they paid $1.92 a pound for it. That's down a little from last year this time, but still a good rate for scrap brass.

Hope this helps.

Fred
