I can not figure this out:

I have the Ruger Mk II slabside pistol and I use their supplied scope base that mounts to the barrel with three screws and also use their scope rings to mount the Ultra Dot.

I put blue loctite on the threads, but after I shoot ab out 100 rounds, I check the screws and they are not tight. The rear one was pretty loose, the middle one was close and the front one was tight.

Any suggestions? Is the base "rocking" on the barrel and wearing the underside of the screw head?

It looks like the screws are not wandering out, it's just that their position isn't holding the base tightly after firing.

Any fixes for this?

Check for burrs which would prevent the base from seating properly. If you are sure that the screws are not backing out I can't think of anything else. With use the burrs would deform and the base loosen.

The best solution is to switch to SoLow mounts.

Another solution is to place a thin film of 5 minute epoxy between the mount and the receiver. The quicker the dry time, the easier it is to take off later. Coat the bottom of the mount with a thin layer and let it cure fully. Then reassemble. That should keep it from sliding around.

Another is to try red loctite.

I'm sure you did this but just in case; You need to degrease the screw holes with alcohol or brake cleaner before using the blue loctite. If not, the screws will work themselves out. You also need to let the loctite set up for at least 24 hours. Mine probably has 25K rounds through it and the base is still rock solid with blue loctite.

FWIW, I was unable to use the standard base with my UltraDot. The ring spacing was too close and the rings were very slightly cocked. I traded it for an extended base from Ruger for a $5 shipping charge.

Does the "extended base" go on and still allow the stock sights to stay on the gun?

Does the XT base attach more securely than the standard one?

This is gonna sound stupid

And it probably is...

but try putting the gun in the freezer till it is oh so freakin cold and then tighten up the screws.

It may help. But more than one of us has complained about ruger sight screws etc. loosening when being shot. Don't know what the deal is for sure.

The Epoxy idea mentioned above should work just fine but damn me to hell and back I'm not gonna use glue to hold my gun together. Just goes against my grain. I wouldn't stop someone else from doing it though.

Yes, sights stay on; its longer in front and has longer ring spacing.

It attaches with the same 3 screws. Its a factory part.

Never had a problem with mine coming loose, and I didn't even use lock tite!

However, the scope mount wasn't mounted until I had maybe 3,000 rounds through it, so things like factory grease and burrs had been long removed.

I am using the factory 30mm set as well.

Kruzr - can you tell us if that muzzle-brake works? I have seen them on-line, but at about $60 they seemed a little spendy. I have the same gun minus the grips and brake. Nice grips too! What kind are they?

The Volquartsen V-comp does three things: 1. It adds weight to the front of the gun. 2. It gets heavier and heavier because it leads up very quickly unless you only shoot copper. It's very difficult to "delead". 3. It scratches the barrel when you have to "drift" it off. I would pass on it if I were you.
It's no longer on the gun and I polished the slabsides bright to get rid of the scratches.

I picked up the grips at a gunshow and paid about $10 too much for them. I think you can find them or very similar at:

An Experiment:

I put a thin layer of blue loctite on the bottom of the scope mount and screwed it down. The loctite did not squeeze out at the edges. As I suspected, the curve of the bottom of the base must be "flatter" than the curve of the top of the barrel.... or else the liquid would have been squeezed out as I tightened the screws. I am going to use a layer of blue loctite on the base to see if that prevents the side-to-side "rocking" I suspect is the culprit. Thanks for the replies.

mine did the same thing when i got it new.after removing the screws and cleaning them with degreaser and degreasing the screw holes with a q tip soaked in degreaser and reappling the loctite..it hasnt budged since.i have the extended base and a millet redot w the 30mm ss ruger rings.makes for q nice setup.great for setting in the shade and plinking paper.
