I have a MKIV Target on the way. Very similar to the Standard except the bull barrel and adjustable sights. I pick it up tomorrow and hope to have it to the range by Monday.
In general, the same comments apply to the Standard as to the Mark IV Target. The main thing is that the trigger pull needs improvement. Most serious users remove the magazine disconnect feature. At a minimum, install a Volquartsen sear. You should be able to get the trigger pull down from 5 lbs. to less than 3 lbs.
Wow, I just came here to make a post about the ruger mark iv myself! I got a Birthday coming up and was thinking of adding a nice .22 to my collection. Looking for an all metal gun. Its not for serious purposes or competition. Trying to decided between the standard and target.
I really like the look of the tapered barrel of the standard, I think it looks a lot nicer than the target to me. I also would prefer a smaller, handy pistol.
But I am worried that I will regret not having adjustable sights. Anyone mind talking mark iv sights please?
Also my eyes aren’t great these days and all black sights are rough for me. Is it possible to add improved after market sights to the standard, Or is that solely the realm of the target model? Maybe the ole paint marker will do.
You can paint the top with an orange model paint. I boight the Target when they first came out. If they had the Standard taper barrel I'd of bought that. According to Ruger specs the Standard is half a pound lighter and that's all in the barrel, I do not enjoy the Target model and think the simple and handy Standard is the way to go. All accuracy reports seem to be very good and that the sights hit to point of aim. You're more than welcome to buy my Target model I'd cut you a good deal, it is super accurate and runs great.
