I just had a job opportunity land in my lap which I cannot pass up.

I received the offer yesterday, and I leave tomorrow for Florida. The job lasts 2 months.

I do not posess a carry permit for MN, yet (just couldn't afford to get one, nor did I have the time). I will be paid well enough on my FL trip to afford such a thing, and I wondered if there is a possibility of me getting a permit to carry in Florida.

Also, I plan on transporting 2 handguns anyhow, as I'm sure I can find some range time down there. If gaining a permit is simply not an option, I will just keep them locked in cases.

Beyond my questions, if there's anything else I need to know about transporting, feel free to let me know. I am driving.

Take a class and apply for a Florida non-resident CWP when you get here. You can possess handguns in your vehicle here without a CWP. Turnaround on the permit is about 6 weeks. It's good for 7 years now and honored by a quite a few other states.

BTW what part of Florida?

Ft. Lauderdale. Do you know, roughly, what needs to be done to apply for a nonresident permit?

you'll be a resident so get a resident permit
To be precise, it's a 'License'. A Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License.

There are not two different types of licenses, same license for everyone just some minor procedural differences, like fingerprint requirement for out of stater's on renewals, and obviously non-Florida residence address on file in Tallahassee.

For transporting, if you go cased and unloaded in a non-passenger compartment of the vehicle you're going to be good to go. Otherwise you'll need to check state by state for having a concealed/loaded gun in the car. In MO a personal vehicle is considered an extension of the home and receives the same 4A protection. In KS, no loaded guns without a CCW.

This brings up 2 other questions:

Is there a way to get a Utah permit in FL?

Am I allowed to purchase a handgun in FL (I thought it would be fun to get a Kel-Tec while here)?

Nope. A resident of one state may not obtain a handgun outside of the state he/she is a resident of.

Thanks for the help, everybody!

What about getting a Utah permit while in Florida? Is that a possibility?
