Model 15 S&W manufacture date?

Hi,

I have a friend with a Model 15 S&W. Serial number is K561xx. Looks nice, but I think it was made in the early 50's from the look of it. Anyone know when it was made?

According to the Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson the date is 1971

An early 1950s model would NOT have a Model number (Model 15).
They started that in the late 50s.
