I'm no S&W expert but I don't think the hammer block was used until later. Doesn't look like the side plate is cut for it plus there is no pin on the rebound slide.

Thanks i wondered about that as two later models had pins to attach, unlike this one. I did not have one in it when first dissasembled; but thought it needed one like the others. Thanks, ill run some rounds thru once all cleaned and oiled, prob fine.

Your hammer block should be on the inside of the side plate. There'll be a small rectangular bit of steel standing at right angles to the side plate and at the end of a long flat spring. If you have a long channel on the side plate, that's where it will go (assuming it's missing).

From Numrich's site:

Thanks; I do have the long groove so i will check tomorrow for where the block should go.
My sideplate, however, is flat inside otherwise and does not have the lg and small circles in it as the one shown, dunno it it matters. That may be an earlier or later change, of which I am learning there were several. I’ll know tomorrow, thanks again for the reply.

Thanks Mizar that was what I needed! Its the first Type. The ‘circles’ of previous post I see are just inside plate wear that are not as sharp in my plate. I hace all but the block, now just gotta call Numrich or wherever and hunt it down.
Thx for all replies!
