Anyone have any experience with this revolver? Our pols here in NY have limited our semi auto pistols to 7 +1. I'm thinking about "upgrading". I feel that it would make a great woods and PD gun and with the upper rail, I can put a scope on it and use it for deer. I know that it's kind of big, but it can't be any heavier than my steel 1911, albiet fatter. I have no problem with my model 19 handling the recoil of the 158's, (although I don't put too much through this revolver. I do have a M&P 340 that I pocket carry during the warmer months and am pretty good with the 357 loads at 10 yards. The gun costs approx 1200 bucks and that is a bit steep, but not out of range for saving up for a few months, especially when extra shifts are available at work. Specifically I would like to know what the recoil is like and concealment options. The 629 4 inch is a bit large but I never tried it IWB. I would consider using it with 44 sp loads for PD but I would like the capacity of 8 rounds. Am I just kidding myself? Maybe my "upgrade" should be to a free state.

If you have the M&P 340 consider the M&P R8. Same gun with a little different barrel shroud. Either one(TRR8/R8) are excellent carry guns and shooters.

Shop around. They can be had for about $1k

Thanks JDF. That was also a consideration. That would make my 3rd M&P. A grand is more doable. I'm considering the purchase around summer 2013. I'm about 2 hours from the S&W factory and they have a shooting sports center. I was thinking of giving them a call to see if they have one to rent for an hour. thanks again.
PS Certaindeaf. The revolver is a 357 mag. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.
