I have a Remington 788 in .223 that is my "laundry room gun rack" rifle for coyotes, feral dogs, etc. It belonged to a west Texas rancher and shows all the signs of having been carried in the floorboard of a pickup. The barrel is somewhat pitted and despite being capable of minute-of-coyote accuracy, I think I'd like to have it re-barreled in the same caliber with the same contour. I'm not looking for a high-dollar air gauged match barrel, just a good chrome moly barrel, same contour, probably a 1-9 twist, blued and installed.

Suggestions?

Your cheapest option is probably ERShaw, should be about 400out the door. If the barrel dosent follow standard remington contours, theres an upcharge, but the premium for a custom contour isnt bad.

Shaw barrels arnt top shelf but usually very accurate, and ive found the work done in house to be excellent.

It's been around 25, or more years ago, now, but I had E R Shaw install and chamber a .45-70 barrel on a Siamese Mauser action I traded a six-pack of Schlitz beer for several years before. They did a GREAT job, for a reasonable price and it will feed and shoot spire point 300 grain Barnes X-bullets very well:
