They didn't. I think they said it was something about feeding problems, but it's been a while since I read about it.
 
No. A few years later they made a run of 44 mags, early 70s. I have dad's.
 
I agree they did not. I think the feeding problems with pistol calibers related to the short cartridge in the long actions sized for rifle cartridges. Winchester Models 73 and 92 were also never chambered for .45 Colt.
 
I believe the first Winchester 94 chambered in 45 Colt was sold in 1985.
 
I don't have a picture of a balloon head 45 LC, but the things do not have have an extractor groove and hardly any rim. I think that is probably why the 45 LC was never in a lever action till solid head cases replaced balloon head. And that took a while.
