I too have an older S&W 38special and would like any info. on it. It was purchased in the 1970's, has a 4" barrel labeled 38 S&W special CTG with a grip ser#5K7231 gun blue. Model 10? 15?. I was always told its nickname was combat master piece

Combat Masterpiece...

...is the name S&W gave the four-inch K-frame .38 Special revolver with "target sights" when the shorter version was created from the earlier six-inch "K-38." When model numbers were assigned, the Combat Masterpiece became the Model 15.

If you swing out the cylinder, stamped inside the frame will be a model number such as "MOD 15-3" or "MOD 10-5". This will confirm what you have.

Did you check out the sticky post on S&W revolver features at the top of this forum?

Seek and ye shall find.
