Modular Chassis System for Mosin Nagant

Furthermore, how is your eye level to the mounted optics? It looks a bit tall.
You bet, it's way off right now. It definitely needs a cheek riser of some kind. Keep in mind that this is a basic modular chassis kit the end user can configure to their liking. The AR stock is a starting point. If there is enough interest in the project then I could design a fully adjustable stock module with all the bells and whistles.

What is the distance between the cheek weld of the stock and the centerline of that scope? I don't think my head's big enough.

Was there a reason you designed the stock so low? It looks like if it was an inch higher the bolt would have been able to still ride above it without any interference. I'm just curious - it looks like a chin weld vs. a cheek weld.

If the stock is moved any higher it will cause interference with the bolt.

Don't forget the mauser K98 and Enfield mk4 when you get the mosin finished.
Nice work!

I'd cast the thing then clean up on CNC. That would bring price down significantly. I think you're makin too many chips. Neat idea though. They make a timney trigger for the mosin now. A heavy barrel, bedding, and good trigger and you'd have quite the toy.

I like it...well sort of. I just think you chose the wrong platform. IMO the Lee Enfield (or a Mauser, or current production rifle) would have been a better choice, and if you decided to make one for the LE I would probably purchase one (assuming a reasonable price of course).

:)

Now I'm dreaming of a 6.5x54r wildcat...
ptg sells the reamer, i think i paid $138 for mine.

on one of my mosin projects i was considering using the magpull precision rifle stock but ran into the same problem so i ended up using something similar to the windrunner design so the bolt can be retracted into the stock & under the cheekrest.
the stock is still a mockup right now and i'm also going to recountour the underside of the scope mount so it will mount directly to the receiver instead of the picatinny rail lowering it down another 1/2" or so. i may cut the bolt handle off and make another one thats a bit thinner.

Dirty Jim,

The good thing about AR stocks is that you can usually find some combination of accessories that will work. The one I have in the pictures is an ATI and it came with a cheek riser that is a little too short. As a first solution I'll just make a taller riser that will fit that stock and clear the bolt. Ultimately I'd like to design a folding skeletonized stock with adjustable length and cheek rest.

Great work!

Thanks for sharing it here. I love seeing such creative work and excellent craftsmanship. Really nice job!

Have you looked into something similar to the Sage stock to solve the cheek weld problem?

That's pretty nice. For now I'm just going to make my current stock work. When I get to the design of the purpose built stock it will need something like that.

A little more progress. The action has been bedded and the chassis painted. Here it is in desert tan.

the sage buttstock is similar in desighn to the windrunner buttstock.
when i as sketching the designs for my mosin sporter i laid out the magpul's precision rifle stock and it would have to be mounted to low and the cheek rest would have to be taller than i wanted so i settled on the something similar to the windrunner & sage designs.

Great work, and I'm sure it was enjoyable to put together.

But I am definitely not a fan.
i see many projects and rifles that i wouldn't own if they were given to me but i can also appreciate the work that went into them.
i'm very glad to see Rafaga building some very unique stuff for a non-mainstream rifle. there are way to many people that think a custom rifle is ordered from a catalog & only takes a screwdriver to assemble.
i like homebuilt customs over generic storebought customs.

somewhere in my pictures i have a photo of a skeletonized sniper stock that doglegs up past the bolt, if i find it i'll post a pic to give you some more ideas.
i almost used the magpull adjustable stock on my mosin but after laying it out it the cheelpiece would have been a lot taller than i wanted.

BTW, if you decide to build some to sell i'll buy one.

Actually, I've been contacted by several folks that are interested in a group buy. If we can put together a group of twenty then I'll commit to making them for $300.00 per unit. For that price you get the following chassis for the Mosin Nagant 91/30:

-Receiver module for the round not the hex receiver.
-Top cover module.
-Butt stock module to accept AR-15 type threaded stock tube.
-Adapter to accept stud for a Harris bipod.
-The grip, buttstock, bipod, scope, and Mosin rifle are not included.
-Bonus extra for the first "twenty", your own personalized engraved message on the left side of the top cover. Engraving will be located opposite the ejection port in the area of the receiver. You can use up to 25 letters or spaces in any combination. Look at the engraving in the various pictures to get an idea of what it looks like. I only have available the font you see in the pictures. My name is on that product so nothing vulgar, you know what that means. I reserve the right to be the final judge on vulgarity. Use your name, avatar, Semper Fi, One-Shot-One-Kill, etc...
-The product will be shipped to the customer "in the white", that means no finish. It's up to you to paint or finish however you like.
-The pictures in the opening post are representative of what you get.
-Please be clear on exactly what you get. I want everyone to feel they got their money's worth and no surprises.

If you would like to get in on this you can contact me directly at [email protected] so I can reserve your spot.

If you decide to make one of these for a Lee Enfield (or a Mauser, et al) at a similar price let me know, I would be very interested.

:)

Not to resurrect a dead thread, I was wondering how these ended up.

Regarding the question of making these for other rifles, wouldn't you just have to machine a separate carrier or design it so that a separate carrier could be used for different rifles?

As for the Mosin and the cheek weld issue, why not turn the safety down so that it fits inside the buffer tube and weld a tab on it to engage the safety. I think that would be a little more positive anyway.

I still think this is a pretty cool idea.
