i have several of the molina 45's and have had great luck with them..even the one you all helped me to figure out what was wrong with it and repair it...well the other day i had the chance to pick up another one real cheap because it had problems...here is the problem when you chamber a round and pull the trigger sometimes it will fire...after it fires it will never fire again unless you recock it then it fires every time.the hammer comes back and falls each time but it just never fires...to me i dont think it is the firing pin but i did measure it and it is shorter than one of my others..or could it be something else..any help is appreciated

Sounds like somebody tried to do a trigger job and buggered it up. The sear isn't catching the hammer. Replace them both.

The Molina 45 copied the Spanish Star lockwork rather then Colt's.

Remove the right grip and you can see the trigger bar with a vertical piece toward the back. It is the disconector. I suspect that either that or the trigger bar is binding, and that sometimes the trigger bar doesn't reset so that it can rotate the sear.

After removing the grip, hand-cycle the slide on the UNLOADED pistol and see if the above isn't what's happening. If so, be sure the parts and their respective slots in the frame are clean and lubricated, and that the grip isn't binding them.

Edited to add: If this isn't the case I would install one of the longer firing pins from one of your other guns into the one you are having trouble with. If this works you have the answer.

Hi, guys,

I would agree with Old Fuff on the disconnector except that Outdoorman says the hammer drops all the time, the gun just doesn't fire.

Outdoorman, a couple of questions.

Are you easing the slide down in loading the first round or are you letting it go normally? Also, is the primer of the misfired round dented at all?

I suspect the slide is not going fully into battery on the first round, possibly due to easing the slide forward. If that is the case, depending on the disconnector setup, the hammer may drop but will hit the firing pin stop rather than the firing pin and the gun will not fire.

If you are easing down the slide, don't. Just hit the slide stop or retract the slide and release it so it goes forward without interference.

no the slide isnt eased downed.it moves as normal..as for the checking the primer i didnt even think to do that while at the range...it just seems weird that you can work the slide..pull the trigger and the hammer fall but it wont go off..cock it and the hammer falls and it fires and ejects..pull the trigger and the hammer falls but no fire..cock it and it falls and fires and so on and so on

i changed firing pins so i will check that next trip to the range...and will take another complete frame and try that too..thanks all
