I saw this ammo at Academy and was wondering if it was an adequate alternative to Remington and Winchester's cheaper ammo. My gun range only allows soft point or hollow point rifle ammo. I will be shooting this primarily in an AR, but also in mini 14 and maybe in a Ruger MKII.

should be quite good, I believe it is either the same as Wolf gold brass line, Prvi brass, or Sellier & Bellot, which is very good.

I haven't tried the soft point stuff, but the FMJ in the green box is currently the bullet of choice in my AR15.

I get pretty OK accuracy with it for $7.89 a box of 20. I can't find anything cheaper in a brass case.

It's not as clean as the American brand name stuff, and leaves a Little more carbon on the bolt, but it is good ammo.

Thanks for the replies my Texas brothers. This ammo is priced about $7.87 for 20. The only cheap ammo that I have shot lately is Barnual soft points in a steel case and that was priced at $5.89 for 20.

I have shot it. In a rifle that gets less than 1" groups with Wolf 55g HPs, they gave 1.5" groups. Also, when reloading the brass, I have found that the primer holes are slightly smaller that typical US brass (Remington and Winchester).

Dracphelan, do you shoot at the Garland public shooting range? Vicious-Peanut, it is funny that only Texans have replied. Guys from the other 49 states, feel free to chime in.

I shoot the blue box steel cased stuff, with no problems, same with the brass case just $3 extra a box.

Rokman: I don't know if Academy does business in the other states, and Monarch as far as I know is only sold as their store brand of ammo.

Jenrick: I know Academy stores are all over Texas, but I have shopped at one in Little Rock, Arkansas. Come to think of it though, that is the only one I remember seeing in another state. You are probably right about the Monarch brand, because that is the only store I have seen it in.

Dracphelan: I just joined the Garland public range a couple of months ago and am bummed about the no fmj rule. It's cheap and I am glad it's there, because it seems like all the outdoor ranges are drying up around here. Never shot at Targetmaster. That's probably a good drive from Frisco.

Thanks for the range info. That would be a pretty long drive for me, but might be worth it for a long saturday shoot. I like the fact that it has a 200 yard range.
