Ok so I'll run down my situation and see what you guys think. I have a standard 4" Springfield XD9 and am excited to get my new MG bullets assembled for it. The only problem is, I did a few dummy rounds to try to figure out the COAL and it is getting really short. I had assembled a case/bullet to 1.100" and it was seating down properly but still sort of sticking a little bit. I have another one at 1.05" that definitely works, but this seems exceedingly short.

Does anyone else have any similar experiences? At this point I'm thinking of going with the 1.05" and the minimum load of Bullseye in the Speer manual for 115gr which is 4.2 grains. Even with the minimum load that seems like a pretty short COAL and I'm worried it may alter the pressure too much.

On a sidenote: I did check the length of the bullet, since shorter COAL doesn't always mean deeper seating depth, eg. JHP vs. RN. The 115gr Montana Gold JHPs are .549" and some 115gr Berry's plated (which I seat at 1.135") are 0.555". So the bullet doesn't seem to be making up for the length either.

I've had good luck with Bullseye at 3.7 gr with a AOl at 1.045 in a M+P 9 compact. I believe Berry reconmends useing a load factor in between FMJ and lead. So, 4.2 gr might be a little hot+ hard on your gun. Just for a trial why not make up 5 rds each of 3.6gr , 3.8gr , 4.0gr and see what shoots the most accurate?

I've had success with Berry's loads I was just using it as a comparison to how short these Montana Gold jacketed hollow points are seating. Right now I think I'm going to seat to ~1.09" and use the minimum jacketed load (4.2gr bullseye) to head out to the range tomorrow.
