Monte Carlo vs. Fiberforce - help me choose

I'm going to re-stock my SKS Sporter. It is one of the models that takes AK mags and has a shorter barrel. No bayo lug though.

It seems I'm limited to the ATI stocks since nobody else makes them for the AK magwell versions of SKS's.

Monte Carlo vs. the Drugunov (Fiberforce) style. Can anyone relate their experiences?

The Monte Carlo looks less *evil*, but how well does either work with iron sights. Also does the Fiberforce stock have any legal baggage? Is it considered a pistol grip stock in any way? Leaning in that direction since I already have one with the Monte Carlo stock.

Does anyone have the Fiberforce style and regret it? Wish they had the other style due to ergonomic reasons?

It shoots fine. I have 3 SKS's. The Sporter version has this funky wood thumbhole stock. The hand grip is kind of square with this part that is carved out and painted black. Kind of reminds me of the stocks the guns on The Planet of the Apes had (the original). Maybe not quite that bad, but you get the idea.

The other two SKS's. One is completely stock and the other has an older Combat Exchange Monte Carlo style stock, which I like, but wondered if anyone could help compare the Fiberforce style for me.

Aren't the ATI stocks from the old Combat Exchange molds? It is basically the same stock although they may have changed materials a little or modified the mold.

As I recall, the Monte Carlo is pretty darn heavy -- to me, it threw the handling of the gun all to heck. Now, the ones that *used* to be folders and are now pinned... "ultralight" I think they're called -- are pretty darn nice handling. Or are there legal issues there?

I've no experience with the faux-Drugonov style, but the little hump back behind the reciever cover looks like a real PITA when it comes time to clean.

I put an SKS into one of those dragunov stocks. Other than the way-kewl looks factor, it did nothing really positive for the gun. Ended up selling it to a guy who wanted, but couldn't afford, a real dragunov.

I ended up taking a dremel tool to the original stock. Turned out pretty well. Originally it was kind of blocky. The grip was kind of square. I smoothed it out and rounded it off. The grip is small in diameter, but fits pretty well. I have long fingers, but it seems to work. Much better than original. The wood is lightweight, but has a grain pattern similar to oak. I will post pictures later.

Dragonov stock SKS

C'mon Makarov! I wanna see. Whenever I try to do anything with a Dremmel, it either looks like an old fart with Parkinsons trying to draw a straight line, or I get impatient and try to cut off more than it can chew. I either need a bench rest or a bigger tool! Or both. Actually, on the bigger tool side, I've ruined one of my two sided bench grinder wheels trying to shape wood with it. Don't try it, it doesn't work. (But it is fun)
