I recently purchased an almost new SKS-M (takes AK mags). Problem is the monte carlo stock is too long for me and snags on my shirt when I bring it up. It measures 14.25 LOP and I need about 13.25. What options do I have for shorter stocks for this gun without worrying about 922 crap? I hate to cut the factory stock due to collectibility and the fact that its in such good condition. I assume a standard wood SKS stock wont fit? Are any of the aftermarket options shorter? I cant find LOP for the synthetic monte carlos. Also, will I have to damage the factory wood on the gas tube in order to swap them out or can I put the wood back on later? If anyone has a factory SKS-M or -D stock they would like to sell please let me know. I'm lost for what to do and am considering selling it and just buying an AK that will fit but dont really want to do that.

Can't help with the stock but

The metal band at the back of the upper hand guard will have a pin at the bottom. You will need to grind the head off one side, then it can be driven out.

To replace the band, another pin will have to be fashioned and ground flush, but a soft nail will usually work fine.
