So what is to be done about it?
Well, hopefully the Florida Supreme Court will throw this out. Still they need 700,000 verified voter's signatures to get this on the ballot. Then 60% plus one to enact it.
DeSantis sat conservative justices on the Supreme Court. We hope they do not turn out to be anti-gun.

Well we have a great attorney general, great governor and a Supreme Court all of which was appointed by republicans (if you count Charlie Crist a republican).

Unfortunately we also have an easily amendable state constitution.

I don’t think there is much that can be done at this point. It’s our courts vs our constitution.

Dan

The courts' job is to interpret to uphold the constitution so I wouldn't bank on the court if you can amend the constitution legally. The court's hands will be tied.

You MUST fight this before it becomes law. You must approach it seriously as a threatening piece of legislation and put all the energy into defeating it required of any other proposed change. You have no hope from the court after your constitution is amended except to challenge it based on the US Constitution and that won't work as we've seen in the states that have AWBs and magazine restrictions that have passed legal challenge.

How do we keep people from signing a petition? And voting for this amendment if it gets on the ballot?
Writing state senators and representatives won't work, they have nothing to do with this.
Making amending Florida's constitution harder to amend is the only way.
Every twenty years a Revision Commission is assembled and a bunch of nonsensical amendments get added. The worst this past election was amendment 4. Giving ex-cons their vote back as soon as the are three with their court ordered detention. Some in the state assembly are fighting to add full restitution and payment of court costs and fines before they can register to vote.
