38/357 on moonclips is a very finicky setup compared to rimless cartridges like 45 ACP. The extractor groove dimensions for a rimless cartridges like 45 ACP is part of the SAAMI spec and thus is pretty consistent from manufacture to manufacture. The groove that the moonclip snaps into on a rimmed cartridge like 38/357, on the other hand, is an artifact of the modern manufacturing techniques for the rim and is not part of the SAAMI spec. This results in each manufacture having their own spec for how deep and wide that grove is. The groove is not even required and some 38/357 cases do not even have the moonclip groove. Blazer Aluminum comes to mind.Im turning sour on moon clips. Got my Trr8 revolver with 8 TK clips ( I believe they are TK) anyway they worked fine with whatever bulk ammo I had. Shot that ammo and just got 600 rounds of freedom munitions 38 special and not one round will go in those clips. I don’t want to have to have a specific case for a specific clip. I don’t shoot competition with a revolver ( not at this time). I’m going to play with my speed bees speedloader and carry that if it works. At the range I enjoy loading 2 at a time anyway..
TK are excellent and probably the best out there. If I was setting up a 8-shot 38/357 you couldn't do better but for a 625 you don't need that good of moonclip to get great functionality. The 45 ACP and the 625 just are not that picky about their moonclip. Ranch Product was the creator of the modern version of the full moonclip that made Jerry Miculek the legend he is. The last time I order 625 moonclips I order direct form Ranch got them for less than a dollar a piece and they work great. Shot a lot of USPSA with those Ranch Product moonclips for both my 610 and 625.The TK Custom are excellent wire-EDM cut clips. Wait for their sales and you can get them for less. They frequently have deals where you can get more for the same price -- like buy a ten pack, get 5 extra.
I use Ranch at about $1.25 each.
