Thanks. I got started on a compact fire piston but I haven't made much progress as the last two weeks have been sucked up by court and more court. While I will certainly finish the fire piston, the ferro rod is likely a much better option overall. I guess I could make this the fire failsafe combo -- ferro rod, fire piston, compact fresnel lens, oiled & waxed jute, magnesium block, etc. Overkill is sometimes fun if nothing else.

Finally got a break at work but I strayed off on two other projects - a very compact stainless knife with canvas and linen micarta handle and then a more all-around bush oriented knife of Damascus steel and black canvas Micarta. Now I have to finish one sheath and then build two more.

I got lucky on the Damascus build -- caught a great deal on the Damascus blank and then made my own black canvas micarta - it ended up costing only slightly more than a Mora HD.
