After 2 days of welcome rain, the sun came out and started to dry things, and felt like setting up to test 5 more types of 22 rimfire.

Again, no attempt made to group, but the PMC Moderator is the most accurate ammo tried in my Rem 541-T in previous tests.
I have to say all the PMC has a distinctly different odor after firing.

Thanks for posting that. Considering that I constantly hear of manufacturers grossly overstating their FPS's that is refreshing info.

How long of a barrel on that Marlin?

Thank you for putting this together, that is very worthwhile information. If you have a chance I would very much like to see some tests with Aguila fodder as it has performed well for me (better than any other non-match bullet).

Art, I would assume a 22in. bbl unless it has been cut as I don't believe any other length was offered (though I could be incorrect).

:)

I just measured the barrel and it's 21", and that surprised me, I had guessed it was 19" before putting the tape to it. It is a youth model, but has proven very accurate with T-22 Winchester ammo.
I had tested some different 22 rimfire a few weeks ago and posted the results. Basically they are remnants of a test for accuracy that I ran for my three 22 rimfire rifles a couple years ago. I thought it would be interesting to check actual velocities to factory rating.

A short boltie can fool you WRT the OAL, as can a compact single shot (of the falling block, rolling block, Martini, break action type). Does yours show any signs of being chopped? I find that barrel length to be odd as I thought they were only offered in 22".

It is 21.06" muzzle to receiver.
A-hah!, that makes perfect since as the bbl is measured to the end of the chamber...making it actually about 22in. BTW, that is a fine rifle you have there.

...and thank you for the additional data. :)

"I have to say all the PMC has a distinctly different odor after firing."

I haven't shot any of the PMC stuff, but I noticed the same thing after firing Eley Tenex cartridges. They must use a different propellant. And you are right, it smells completely different.

WRT Eley (and Aguila) it is the priming compound that causes the distinct odor, not the propellant. Their "secret sauce" also tends to produce a more reliable and consistent ignition than other formulations.

:)

Fella's;

I recently chrono'ed some Winchester PowerPoint 40 grain HP out of my CZ452 American. The box states that it'll go 1280 fps, but doesn't say outta what gun or barrel length. Over my Oehler 35P, it'll do 1280 from the CZ. And it's just outstandingly accurate in that particular gun also.
