Here's my latest Detroit Firearms Examiner column on the Brady bunch.

More bad news for the gun-control crowd as the Brady Campaign sells its member list to raise cash.

"As the American public increasingly turns away from the gun control agenda, the leading gun control group has been forced to sell its membership list to raise money."

As always, please feel free to share the link through DIGG, via e-mail, or by posting it on other forums. Please do not repost the entire text though as then I would not be properly paid for my work.

I'll take a copy of that list. Thank You. Oh, and I'm willing to pay up to .03 for it. At a higher price I'll just wait until it hits the net. Kinda want to put them on my list for the locals anyway.

Another good article on more good news.

You really put it politely to say that, at worst, Micheal Barnes flat out lied about the strength of their membership numbers by fabricating with his wishful imagination, or at best, they've experienced a disastrous exodus in their ranks like millions of rats from a sinking cruise ship.

I have to believe a good bit of each is true, and there is a little cause and effect there too.

How many of these members will run and hide once their name becomes public?

I agree, we should double our efforts as a whole to make sure the BB doesn't get revived or others take their place like Mayors against illegal guns.

Anyone know how much the list costs?

Hehe. There's an interesting thought. It would be quite interesting if the NRA could somehow get their hands on the list and then do a mailing saying basically "Brady lied to you" and refuting some of their lies point by point with FBI stats and the like. Probably wouldn't convince any of the true believers, but it could turn some of the fence sitters.

Counting unhatched eggs?

Lets be careful of all this talk about the pending demise of the Brady Bunch. From what I understand theirs is a small organization that doesn't need lots of money to push their agenda and there are a lot of liberal wealthy people out there who could easily sustain their actions for a long time with just a modest donation. Any time they put out any type statement you can bet that all the mainstream media will publish it verbatim without the slightest scrutiny, all for free. :cuss:

There are quite a few liberal wealthy folks out there who are pro 2nd amendment as well. Not everyone in that camp is a Conservative Republican. If you are truly concerned, don't go drawing lines of distinction based purely on political party.

The thing with mailing lists is the owner of the list gets to decide who the list is sold to. If you fradulently bought (actually "rented") the names you could be on the hook for considerable damages.

So, while it's nice to fantasize about buying the list, to try to do so is not a good or practical idea.

I just love that they are forced to sell it in the first place. That's a bad sign for them.

Agree 100%. If it wasn't for the media parroting most of what comes out of BC, CSGV, VPC, MAIG, etc. I don't think those groups would really matter much, if at all. It doesn't help that Hollywood is on their side for the most part and subtly puts the anti-gun message into many of their movies and TV shows (Runaway Jury and The American President, just to name two blatant examples). The anti-gun groups size seems to be a small pond next to the NRA's ocean of members, but the anti-gun groups have powerful allies.

From the crap I get in the mail, I'm fairly sure the NRA sells it's list too.

Yep, so that must make them...
Desperate move by a desperate, useless and inward looking organisation that obviously doesn't give a damn about it's countrymen.

The street name was incorrectly spelled on my NRA registration. I reversed two letters and received several subsequent mailings with the letters reversed from non-NRA organizations. It was all pro-gun stuff, but not what I wanted.

Similarly, I had a subscription to Gun Reports sent to my property in the next county and was surprised by how much stuff followed from various groups, including the NRA who had apparently then bought it from Gun Reports

Yep, just about every organization sells its mailing lists. "Cause" groups get more money because the basic sorting has already been done (i.e., if you are an NRA member you have an interest in guns). The problem for an anti-gun group is that there are not many commercial organizations with a tie-in. An NRA member might be receptive to ads for guns, outdoor gear, hunting clothing, etc. But what is an anti-gun product? So far as I know, that kind of hatred does not come in a package with a UPC on it.

At $25 a name their market must be people who want to buy themselves OFF that list before it leaks out.
