More likely to alter firearms that you cannot sell or trade?

If for some reason you were unable or no allowed to sell or trade your firearms (but allowed to purchase additional firearms), do you think you would be more apt to make modifications to your firearms?

I often pass on modifications that I feel may benefit me personally out of concerns of decreasing its resale value.

Depends on the firearm. My old beat up VZ24 is slated for a complete tear down and rebuild as a hunting rifle... one day. My 1941 Lithgow No1 MkIII* will never be altered. My FAL has been repainted and awaits funds for an ACOG and various other bits. Chances are that if a modification is appealing to you then it may very well be appealing to others as well. It really just depends on the firearm and the modification.

i don't consider guns an investment either...i buy them for enjoyment

if i think a modification will make it shoot better for me, i have it done

Yeah. I hard chromed and put walnut grips on a Walter P1. If I had any thought of selling it I wouldn't. It was an act of personal pleasure. My mustang is like that too. I have spent stupid money on customizing it but it makes me happy.

I have sixteen arms and really none of them are safe from customizing. Some like my saiga 12 I believe I would get my money back.

I believe 18" barrels and 26" overall?

16" tube for rifles, 18" for shotguns, 26" OAL for both, and that is measured with the stock extended/unfolded in the case of telescoping, retracting, top folding or side folding stocks.

and that is measured with the stock extended/unfolded

ah, that law is in place so you can't readily conceal a long gun down your trousers or under your jacket...so 26"oal in its smallest form makes a lot more sense.

I don't worry about resale value.

I suspect that people in inhibited markets (I.e. places with purchase licenses, gun-a-month limits, etc.) will tend to put their money into upgrades because they can't put it into more guns.

Well, more than suspect; when I lived in CA I spent more on upgrades/accessories than I do now. I suspect I wasn't unique.

Or maybe I have done the upgrades I want.
