So as to not mess up Rugers thread on bullet set back, I am starting this one,
Got to messing around and recorded some "data" there is not enough to make any real valid conclusion in my opinion and also will vary of course with the gun, dies, brass and bullets.
Had to dig around the garage for some 200gr LSWC bullets, Thes are old from Denver bullets. I got tired of SWC and mostly load RN and FN so they will feed in all 45's.
Being as I am "rebel without a cause"
I used RP Nickle plated brass (once fired) Crummy Lee dies, Lee Press and a Hornady caliper.
Loaded 8 test dummy rounds and number them. Number 8 is the last round in the mag.
COL 1.260 (depending on how hard I push on the jaws, it does vary some bullets have a ridge on them from the mold.
Crimp .470
Test gun is a DW Valor, match barrel and standard spring.
Hand cycled the rounds through a Metalform(DW)mag first and then a Wilson Combat,
The first round did have a little set back but the others no much. But then I do not normally cycle a round 2 times.
Then cycled #8 a third time (this time first in the mag) and it has a few thousand set back.
To me even though the results are not "statistically valid" it make little difference to me, I can not get to excited about .003" of set back Been shooting these for years, maybe in other 45s they will not move at all?? But loading dummy rounds a writing stuff down is no rel fun anyway.
