Mosin Nagant 91/30 with Accessories $59.95 AIM flyer from 2004

I was cleaning out the garage and found a box with some goodies. I found two 525 bricks of .22lr. The price tag was $12.80 . These were in a Meijer's bag when I bought them sometime in the 2000's. I forgot that I bought them.

Also found was an old AIM Surplus Holiday 2004 flyer

British Enfield No 4 Mk1 .303 cal @ $89
Police Trade in Glock 22 .40 cal @ $349

The good days have gone by. And it will be getting worse as we see troubles in Eastern Ukraine where most of the surplus of the former USSR came about. And we are seeing it now with the 5.45 caliber being banned.

I can relate to this. I came across some 2003-2006 Shotgun Digest and was reminded how much cheaper everything was not so long ago. I'm certainly not prescient, but I did stock up on ammo during this period, something I'm grateful for every day. Not only do I have some sub $100/1000 7.62x39, I have five bricks left of $8.99 winchester wildcat .22 on the shelf. I dread the time when I have to replace it.

I will be the first to say it:

Even with reloading, I can't afford to shoot any centerfire rifle or pistol ammunition.

I am done with recreational shooting. All I can afford to shoot is just enough weekly or bi-monthly to maintain proficiency with my defensive weapons.

This is the price we pay for bringing in more and more new shooters. Shooters who we need to join the NRA and vote RKBA minded candidates. I wish I would have bought a few Mosins back then.

LOL, I was one of those folks buying a $149 Swiss K31 when I was offered a 91/30 for $49 with no additional shipping if I bundled one with my order. Heck, why not?
Yes, prices where quite agreeable back then. I have not purchased a firearm with my C&R that hasn't appreciated noticeably. However, most of my C&R purchases were from at least 5 years ago, most closer to 10 years ago.

I bought a Mosin M44 and a Yugo SKS from AIM several years ago. I think I paid 1bout 100.00 for each.

Sadly they are no longer with me. :(

They had a bunch of different Bushmaster AR-15's. The flyer says "the wait is over". I guess they meant that was right after the AWB sunset.

How much are Bushmaster AR-15's going for these days?

16" A2 Carbine $749.95
16" A3 Carbine $799.95

16" M4A3/A2 Carbine $759.95
16" M4A3/A3 Carbine $809.95

Also the Czech CZ52 7.62 X 25 pistol in VG condx with Cleaning rod, Lanyard & 2 8 rd magazines $89.95

Polish P-64 9X18 Mak in Exc Condx with two 8 rd mags $139.95 each or $129.95 each if you buy two

Czech 7.62X54r Silver tip ammo 780 rounds sealed can on sale for $49.95

Anyone who took advantage of the great prices 10 years ago. Congratulations!

.

Yeah, I stocked up on that Czech x54r, some was under $40 per 440. All my Mosins and the PSL loves it. Wally mart used to sell the Blaser Brass 45 @ $11-12 and I'm running low on it now. If I didn't reload, I wouldn't be shooting as much.
And those AR mags, the ones that went through the roof, they are just about giving them away now.

You just have to pay attention to the bargains that are out there.....Last year I was in the LGS five blocks away and they had one bag of 500 new 7.62x39 brass for fifty some bucks. I promptly picked up that bag and marched to the cash register and payed.

At least AR mags are super cheap right now since the market is flooded with them.

Yup. Local store has them at $12 for an everyday price, once every other month they do 5 for $50, and sometimes they'll drop them down to around $7 each or lower (like on Black Friday)

Also the Czech CZ52 7.62 X 25 pistol in VG condx with Cleaning rod, Lanyard & 2 8 rd magazines $89.95

Yeah. That one really kills me. At the time I thought "I don't want to buy a gun and have to stock up on yet another caliber." I knew 7.62Tok surplus ammo would run out eventually, and didn't want to get stuck. But the ammo back then was absolutely dirt cheap and I could have bought tens of thousands of rounds.:banghead::banghead::banghead:

It is fun to wax nostalgically about the 'good old days' of cheap surplus ammo and guns. I got in on the tail end of these prices right after the era of the ad in the OP.

Luckily I had a friend big into C&Rs and I got the bug and the license. My budget was small, and my first guns were the $150 SKSs and K31s... thankfully I had the foresight to buy buy buy...
I fondly remember handling my first K31s at a Colorado gunshow. They were $99 each, you could hand pick from some really nice ones. The seller couldn't move them. Remember seeing huge crates of $60 Mosin Nagants covered in cosmoline. You could have armed your neighborhood with rifles and ammo for a couple thousand dollars. Prices that really should have been higher at the time. I wonder if all the importers wish they would have slowed the release of these rather than just dumping them on the market for quick small margins...

But here is the lesson.

TODAY is the good old day of MODERN guns. As prices for C&Rs have climbed, prices for modern guns have plummeted.

New handguns and rifles and shotguns are stupid cheap right now, along with magazines.

Saw new XDs and SWMPs for like 450 recently. You can get a new AK47 for $500 and change, AK pistols for under $500, and new ARs for $600...:what::what:

And in 10 years, these prices will seem unimaginable. Learn your lessons, buy cheap, stack deep.

I remember buying my first Mosin Nagant at $99 and thought what a great deal, still do all things considered. I've got at least 7 now and all the regular 91/30's I paid under $100 for so I can't complain. A fellow collector friend of mine said he remembers when his local convenient store had a barrel of Mosin Nagants for $12/ea. That was quite a while ago though. :)
