What do you guys think of the Advanced Technology synthetic stocks for the Mosin Nagant? Are they any good. Do they improve accuracy? They sure make theguns look better.
I think anything touching the barrel affects accuracy. The synthetic stocks may improve accuracy this way, but I was discussing other ways to clear the barrel on another thread. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=239644
I put one on an M44.
It's noticably heavier than a wood stock (depends on the wood of course), ugly, and poorly made. The first, and the replacement, both had a significant bow in the forearm, so that the barrel channel was pushing against the barrel.
I eventually just cut off everything forward of the rear sight and have the barrel floating off in space.
It's nothing I'd go out of my way to buy again if there were more choices available. I hate the idea of cutting up the original wood, and the sporter stocks Boyds markets are too nice to do a 'pickup' gun with.
That said, a chromed M38 in one of those stocks would make a very nice pickup gun.
