Hello, first time poster here.

Last night I field stripped my Mossy 500 (12" ga. w/ 8 shot capacity) to clean it after a mid-week session at the local range.

Got everything back together, but it wouldn't pass the function test on reassembly. I basically worked from the youtube.com video by Life, Liberty, Etc. and have also reviewed the owner's manual. I did remove the trigger housing assembly, but did not break the assembly down any further than pulling it out of the receiver.

The problem is, each time I've put it back together, the action lock lever won't engage, so I can rack the thing at will.

Any thoughts as to what I might be overlooking are appreciated. Thanks!

Try R&Ring (removing and reinstalling) the trigger plate assembly, if you haven't already. Far as I recall (and it's been a while since I've had a Mossberg apart), the action lock engages the left action bar- could be it went off to one side or the other when you put it back in before.

Also there are two tension springs that should be in position over the top of the action lock- check and make sure they are in place properly while you have the trigger plate assembly out of the gun.
